The Wyndham Championship was the PGA Tour's final stop before next week's FedEx Cup playoffs kick off. The Wyndham offered a $7.9 million purse, with $1.476 million to the winner.
Finally, that winner's check is going to Cameron Young. The 28-year-old New York native had been a runner-up seven times, the most for a player without a win on Tour since 1983, but finally broke through at Sedgefield Country Club. He led by five shots coming into the final round and never gave the field a glimmer of hope, making five straight birdies from the 2nd through 6th hole to set up a cakewalk of a Sunday afternoon. He won by six shots.
Young is also the 1000th different winner of a PGA Tour event, with the Tour counting winners all the way back to the first British Open in 1860.
