2024 at the movies took movie fans from Arrakis to Oz (and a bunch of other places in between). Where will we go in 2025? Get an idea with our full look at the 2025 release schedule for new movies.

We're keeping track of all of the new films coming out in 2025 (exclusively on the big screen, no streaming only titles here), from the big franchises — including the latest entries in the MCU to Wicked: For Good — to more adult-driven movies or family-friendly titles. We'll keep this list updated as new movies are added or in the event that release dates shift so you can know exactly what is coming out in a given week and what exciting movies are on their way.

East of Wall

The winner of the NEXT Audience Award at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, East of Wall stars real-life horse trainer Tabatha Zimiga as a version of herself as she tries to secure her ranch in the Badlands after her husband's passing, not just for the horses but for the young girls that have come to rely on the ranch as a refuge.

The Knife

Former NFL player Nnamdi Asomugha makes his directorial debut in this crime thriller that he also co-wrote with Mark Duplass. In it, a young Black family must deal with the fallout of a home invasion as a detective attempts to solve the case over the course of a single night.

Nobody 2

Bob Odenkirk, action star, is back for another round in Nobody 2. The original iteration of the action comedy premiered in 2021 and saw Odenkirk's ordinary-looking Hutch Mansell revealing that he has a past as a trained assassin. In the sequel, he's looking to get a break from his life of violence, but it finds him nonetheless.

Went Up the Hill

New Zealand and Australia have had some really strong elevated horror movies in recent years (The Babadook hailed from Australia), and Went Up the Hill could be the next entry in that category. The movie focuses on a son who goes to the funeral of his estranged mother, only to discover that his mother's spirit hasn't completely passed on just yet.

Witchboard

  • Release date: August 15

Move over ouija board, Witchboard is the thing causing problems now in this new horror movie. Stranger Things' Jamie Campbell Bower stars in the movie, this time being the one that is getting haunted.

Spike Lee pays homage to the great Akira Kurosawa with his own take on the classic Kurosawa movie, High and Low. Beyond seeing Lee's take on this crime drama, the excitement around Highest 2 Lowest is that it serves as the first movie directed by Lee and starring Denzel Washington since 2006's Inside Man.

Honey Don't!

While we all hold out for a Coen brother reunion in the near future, Ethan Coen is continuing on his solo directing career with the crime comedy Honey Don't! His Drive-Away Dolls star Margaret Qualley leads the way as a private investigator that digs into a series of strange deaths that all point back to a mysterious church.

Ne Zha 2

A24 gets into the animation game, distributing this animated fantasy, action, adventure movie that hails from China. Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh leads the voice cast for the movie's English-language version.

Relay

David Mackenzie has quietly amassed quite the filmography, and he may have another sleeper hit on his hand with Relay, which has the feel of a 70s era thriller. The movie stars Riz Ahmed as a fixer who breaks his typical rules when he tries to help a whistleblower that comes in the crosshairs of a dangerous group.

Splitsville

Dakota Johnson is the rom-com star of the summer, as after Materialists she stars in Splitsville, an indie rom-com that also plays with the formula a bit. Here, when a man's wife reveals that she has cheated on him, he goes to find solace with his friends, where he learns they actually have an open marriage. Simply put, things get wildly complicated from there.

Sophie Turner stars in this thriller of a Hollywood actress that heads to a remote cabin to hideout for a bit following a big scandal. However, trouble finds her and forces her to fight for her life.

Caught Stealing

Darren Aronofsky, the Oscar-nominated director best known for power, psychological dramas like Black Swan and Mother!, gives comedy a try with the crime comedy Caught Stealing. The movie stars Austin Butler as a former baseball players/now bartender who gets caught in the middle 90s New York's criminal underbelly when his neighbor asks him to watch his apartment.

A Little Prayer

  • Release date: August 29
  • Cast: David Strathairn, Jane Levy, Anna Camp
  • Director: Angus MacLachlan

A Little Prayer first premiered all the way back at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, where it was very well received; it has a 93% "Fresh" Rotten Tomatoes score as of August 4. The movie, which focuses on a father who must figure out how to protect his daughter-in-law when he learns his son is having an affair, is finally getting a wide release.

The Toxic Avenger
