Sunday 14 September 2025 20:39 , Tom Murray

Days before the Emmy Awards, Adolescence star Owen Cooper told Jimmy Kimmel about his “number one” actor, Jake Gyllenhaal, and promised to “chew his ear off” talking if he got seated anywhere near the Brokeback Mountain star at the ceremony.

However, Netflix beat the Television Academy to the punch, introducing the two actors right before the Emmys. Very wholesome viewing indeed.

'The Independent's' 'The Penguin' review — three stars

Sunday 14 September 2025 21:12 , Tom Murray

The Penguin is the second most-nominated show at the Emmys this year (with 24 nods); however, The Independent’s TV critic Nick Hilton wasn’t bowled over.

In his three-star review, Hilton wrote: “Farrell is a leading man, with leading man good looks. I don’t quite understand the logic of hiring and then hiding him, rather than just casting someone a better physical match for the character. It feels like he’s taking food out of the mouths of Paul Giamatti’s children.”

'The White Lotus' composer wins Emmy after Mike White beef

Sunday 14 September 2025 21:31 , Tom Murray

The White Lotus earned the Creative Arts Emmy Award for the third season’s theme song, despite the mixed response from fans and a fallout with creator Mike White.

This is the third win for the composer, Cristóbal Tapia de Veer, earning the Creative Arts Emmy for Outstanding Main Title Theme Music.

However, the accolade came as a shock in light of the public controversy between Tapia de Veer and White, who argued over the track’s melodic changes.

“I knew he wasn’t a team player and that he wanted to do it his way. I was thrown that he would go to the New York Times to s*** on me and the show three days before the finale,” White told Howard Stern. “I just don’t think he respected me.”

04:13 , Kevin Perry

Bargatze’s plan to donate $100,000 to charity the Boys & Girls Club of America as long as the winners’ speeches didn’t exceed 45 seconds wasn’t wholly successful in keeping things brief, but he’s sportingly decided not to dock the charity because of all the celebrities getting carried away.

He closes this year’s show by announcing that he’ll in fact be donating $250,000 of his own money to the charity, along with $100.000 from CBS for a total of $350,000.

Everyone goes home happy! (Well, except the award losers).

As promised,Gilmore Girls co-stars Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham reunited to hand out the award for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series.

In perfect Lorelei and Rory fashion, the two humorously fed off each other’s energy.

“25 years ago, a show called Gilmore Girls premiered and apparently took the season of fall hostage,” Graham, 58, quipped.

“In spite of our autumnal dominance, Gilmore was actually a very small show,” Bledel, 43, added, with Graham noting, “meaning we had no money.”

“If there was a birthday at The Drew Carey Show next door, they would send us their leftover sheet cake,” she said. “We walked in circles in Burbank, saying, ‘Hey, look how Connecticut it is here today.’”

Bledel continued: “We saved up all year long to have one snow episode.”

“And then ER would wet down their street and wash it all away,” Graham harrumphed, as Bledel reminded her, “You’ve got to let that go!”

“They had [George] Clooney, they could’ve let us have the damn snow,” Graham joked.
