2023 NFL Draft: O’Cyrus Torrence scouting report

A massive man moved out of Florida, offensive lineman O’Cyrus Torrence will look to be an immediate starter at the next level as he enters the 2023 NFL draft.

Here is everything you need to know about Florida’s biggest Gator:

Vitals

Height: 6-5

Weight: 347

Class: Junior

Strengths

An incredibly big and strong interior offensive lineman with terrific athleticism and balance to match, O’Cyrus Torrence is the truest form of a mauler and he still has room to grow as a player. Just based on his size and strength he was able to swallow up the majority of players he went up against, his added athleticism allowed him to play against the most elite defensive lineman without much added issue, and as a four year starter he has had a ton of experience, development, and production since setting foot on the field, as he has not given up a sack in his college career.

As a pass blocker, Torrence is light on his feet and able to dance with lighter and more agile defensive linemen. Once he gets his massive claws on them he is able to lock them in place or toss them on the grass. His flexibility and bend allow him to anchor well and allow his incredible strength to take over on bull rushers. It is incredibly difficult to move him off his spot, and I can count on one hand the number of times I saw him get outright beat on a pass rush.

He truly shines as a run blocker starting with an excellent low frame and placing his hands on the chest of defenders, he easily pushes them back or aside off the ball, and the battles with him on the interior tend to not last very long. He is a surprisingly good mover on trap plays and tosses, he maneuvers his way to his block with haste and there is not much a defender can do once Torrence gains momentum going downhill. His play strength and athletic skills will not find much trouble converting into the next level and he will only continue to get stronger and more athletic with time.

Weaknesses

There are times when Torrence can miss his assignment and he does not quite have the recovery speed to make up for it; though not often, it isn’t great he is allowing a clean rush to the quarterback without an answer for it. This should be quite easily cleaned up with a good offensive line coach who can polis the big man up.

He also plays with his pad level too high at times and it can mess with his balance when gliding backward in pass sets or when lunging forward in run fits. It creates an unnecessary loss of power, and while it still worked in college, everyone is stronger in the NFL and he will need to be more consistent in finding his form.

Projection

O’Cyrus Torrence is one of the most gifted and best interior offensive linemen I have had the opportunity to scout. His massive size, strength, and athleticism make him an ideal starter at either guard spot. He will be the key factor in a team’s running attack and will not be a liability on passing downs against many of the rushers in the league. He can always work on some mechanical issues to develop even further, and it is fun to think just how strong and ferocious he will become with time and development.

He will undoubtedly be a Day 1 starter and has the potential to be one of the best guards in the league right away.
