2023 Annan Queen of the Border named for Riding of the Marches

Roxy Nicholson has been voted this year’s Annan Queen of the Border.

Eight academy pupils put their name forward for the leading role at this summer’s Riding of the Marches and their classmates voted throughout last week, with the winner announced at an event on Friday.

Roxy, aged 13, will follow in the footsteps of a number of her relatives as two cousins have been previous queens, her papa Rod was a Cornet, and her cousin Corey was Queen’s Champion last year.

This year’s Champion is Elliot Oakes and her ladies in waiting are Shaenah Quinn and Alexandra Miller-Pearson.

The crowning ceremony will take place in the summer ahead of gala day.

Nominations are now invited for the position of Cornet, Cornet’s Lass and Standard Bearer. Application forms, detailing eligibility requirements and duties, are available from: 12 Preston Gardens, Annan, DG12 5GZ, or call 07739223693.

Completed forms must be returned by noon for Cornet and Lass, or 6pm for Standard Bearer on Sunday, March 5.
