2021's biggest problem solved - how to pronounce Nutella

As people around the world celebrate World Nutella Day, new research reveals that the British public are divided on how to actually pronounce the name of the iconic spread.

78 per cent of Brits polled in the research conducted by Nutella say they pronounce the much-loved chocolate hazelnut spread “NUT-ella”, compared to just 12 per cent who say “NOU-tella”. Whilst 6 per cent think “NEW-tell-uh” is the correct pronunciation and the remaining 3 per cent said they simply didn’t know.

To mark World Nutella Day on Friday, February 5, the team at Nutella has decided to help clear things up once and for all, by confirming that the emphasis should actually be put on the ‘N’ and ‘OU’ – and the correct pronunciation is “NOU- tella”.

The 'u' in Nutella should be pronounced the same way as the 'u' in influence.

James Stewart, Marketing Director for Nutella, Ferrero UK & Ireland, said: “As Nutella is enjoyed in every corner of the world, there has long been some fun debates on how it should be pronounced. Our Nutella team wanted to share how we pronounce the iconic spread’s name. We emphasise the ‘NOU’ in ‘NOU-tella’, but we don’t mind how our fans decide to pronounce it - the most important thing to us is that you enjoy it!”

Nutella fans can celebrate their passion for Nutella this World Nutella Day with their very own personalised jar for £9.99, including postage and a gift box. Available online at https://www.nutella.com/personalisedjar.
