2021 NFL free agency: Jags re-sign backup OL Tyler Shatley

The Jacksonville Jaguars started this week by franchise tagging left tackle Cam Robinson, which could be an indicator that they plan to keep their offensive line intact for the most part. On Friday, they retained another pending free agent on the unit in Tyler Shatley, who was a reliable backup for them last season (and even before).

Shatley, 29, has been with the Jags dating back to 2014 when he signed with them as an undrafted free agent. Since, he’s registered 25 career starts between guard and center, 10 of which occurred last year.

Shatley registered a Pro Football Focus grade of 67.7 last season as he filled in along the interior with injuries occurring to A.J. Cann, Brandon Linder, and Andrew Norwell at different points of the season. PFF also had him down with a 69.9 pass protection grade and a 65.5 run-blocking grade.

With Shatley returning, the Jags will clearly be getting their top reserve offensive lineman back. He’ll now join notables Ben Bartch and Will Richardson on the Jags’ No. 2 unit, all of whom saw time on offense last year.
