There’s never been a time in history when the consumption of media is more accessible than right now. Proof of this was the 2021 NFL draft which could be seen on multiple networks including ABC and ESPN in standard and digital formats all over the world.
This level of accessibility made for the third-most watched draft of all time with 6.1 million viewers. And while this is a remarkable number, it is actually the third-lowest of the last three drafts.
In 2019 the draft had 6.2 million viewers and in 2020 there were a staggering 8.3 million viewers. All three of these draft were unique in that they were carried across multiple networks and digital platforms, which had never been done before Walt Disney Corporation expanded it.
It is fair to assume the huge bump in viewership last year was a confluence of factors including the lack of a college football season in addition to all the other changes to the NFL world due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
