2021 NFL Draft: Bears get first-round talent OT Teven Jenkins in second round

The Bears traded up again, this time landing Oklahoma State offensive tackle Teven Jenkins at No. 39 overall in the second round.

They gave up their third-round pick this year (No. 83 overall) to swap second-round picks with the Panthers. They also got pick No. 151 (fifth round) in exchange for their sixth-round pick at No. 204.

Jenkins was widely projected to be a first-round pick. Four offensive tackles went in the first round Thursday, but he slid to the second despite ESPN ranking him the 26th overall prospect in the draft.

Jenkins played left and right tackle in 35 starts at Oklahoma State and should be penciled in as the Bears’ starting right tackle over Germain Ifedi. He could take over at left tackle in 2022 given that the Bears are able to get out of Charles Leno’s contract at the end of this season.

The Bears opened the draft by trading with the Giants to move up from No. 20 to No. 11 and take Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields.

That likely ends the night for the Bears, who aren’t scheduled to pick again until their newly acquired fifth-round pick, followed by Nos. 208, 221 and 228 overall in the sixth.
