2021 Kirkcudbright Academy Half Marathon postponed - but organisers hopeful of holding race later in the year

This year’s Kirkcudbright Academy Half Marathon has been postponed.

The popular event usually attracts hundreds of people to the town during the Bank Holiday weekend at the end of May.

But the ongoing coronavirus pandemic means race director Richard Nash, co-ordinator and parent council chair Liz Kettle and rector Anthony Tuffery have decided it cannot go ahead as planned.

There is, however, a chance the race could return later in the year if the situation improves.

Liz said: “We are hoping to do something We are just taking it week by week at the moment.

“We had got to the point where we had to open the website up for entries or not.

“Myself, Richard and Anthony y decided that even if we did go ahead, the wider community might not welcome a large influx of people coming into the area and staying.

“We are raring to go and hoping to do something. There may be an online event but the half marathon won’t be taking place.”

The event was cancelled completely last year – just the second time in its 37 year history it has not gone ahead.
