2021 Ford Mustang Ecoboost Premium Review: The 330 Horsepower 4-Cylinder Mustang Proves Itself

There is no doubt that SUVs & pickup trucks have taken the U.S market by storm; it wouldn’t be wrong to say their presence on the road extends beyond the horizon. Nonetheless, some cars have maintained their glamour in these challenging times largely due to their greater fanbase and unique character.

One such sporty car or muscle car as it is normally called is the Ford Mustang. The Mustang received an exhilarating response upon its launch over half a century ago and its admirers have only grown since then. The continued improvements over time and a great public image are important contributors to its success. The muscle car is available in several variants, and all of them have their own unique attributes. Here, we will discuss the Ecoboost Premium version that comes equipped with a rather small but capable 2.3L turbocharged engine and a host of other upgrades too.

Despite the popularity of V8 Stangs, no one can contest the fact that the Ecoboost version of the Pony car is also very capable, thanks in part to the forced injection. The new Focus-derived Ecoboost power plant might seem a bit underwhelmed for its job, but a closer look reveals the real devil. The 330hp produced from a 2.3L turbocharged four-cylinder engine is no mean feat, and that also makes this Mustang the punchiest four-pot American sports car ever made.

A larger turbocharger significantly reduces the turbo lag, thus providing you with a greater mid-range response. All of this combined with a quick-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission lays the ground for a seamless but adrenaline-rushing experience. Ford has also made sure that the enthusiasts get what they are looking for in a performance car, a 6-speed stick shift transmission, that lets you control the revs and beats of the engine according to your desire, ultimately giving you the rawest and connected experience.

Being significantly lighter than a V8 Stang (almost 200lbs.), the Ecoboost version greatly reduces understeer, hence delivering you the precision the American muscle car has conventionally lacked. The optional High-performance package adds more character owing to the fact it is equipped with a GT Performance package & suspension components. The new High-performance trim level brings forth cosmetic changes and upgraded options for the buyers that were previously only specific to the top-end versions.

The exhaust note of an Ecoboost-powered Pony car has always remained one of its weakest points. Ford has rectified this problem by fitting it with an active exhaust system that amplifies the sound note, making it much more synonymous with the famed V8's buzz that we Americans are fond of. A host of other GT upgrades in the high performance & handling package include beefier anti-roll bars, better braking capability, thicker & stickier summer tires, and better weight distribution (53/47). All these extras make the new Ecoboost version worth consideration.

The 2021 Ford Mustang Ecoboost is in line with Ford's tradition of improving America's favorite muscle car. The two-door fastback style is like icing on the cake that combined with an endless list of upgrades makes the Pony car a must-have for any petrolhead. The discontinuation of its archrival, Chevy Camaro, is only going to make the case stronger for Ford’s sole offering in this segment.
