At first glance, it looks like the Pittsburgh Steelers have a very crowded and talented running back depth chart. However, upon further examination, you have a lot of guys with the potential to be good, perhaps not great and a wide variety of running styles. How the workload shakes out and which back or backs step up this season remains to be seen. But here are our predictions for how the numbers work out this season.
James Conner
Conner will be the starting back on paper but look for the Steelers coaches to spread things around more this season to try to keep him healthy.
165 carries 660 rushing yards 8 rushing touchdowns
32 receptions 279 receiving yards 3 receiving touchdowns
Benny Snell Jr.

Another injury to Conner and Snell’s numbers will see a huge bump over last season.
158 carries 664 rushing yards 7 rushing touchdowns
24 receptions 192 receiving yards 2 receiving touchdowns
Anthony McFarland Jr.

In two seasons, McFarland could be the feature back in this offense but for this season he’s more of a change of pace.
60 carries 306 rushing yards 4 rushing touchdowns
18 receptions 180 receiving yards 4 receiving touchdowns
Kerrith Whyte

We think Whyte shows much more potential than Jaylen Samuels at this point and he ends up the fourth running back.
41 carries 200 rushing yards 2 rushing touchdowns
6 receptions 42 receiving yards
