The 2020 NFL Draft is just days away, but there’s still time to fire off a few more mock drafts before the real thing kicks off Thursday night.
Rumors are flying in every direction already, with teams looking to move up or down all across the first round. Many expecting this to be the most surprise-filled draft in recent memory due in part to this year’s strange and difficult predraft process.
As we head into the homestretch, here’s an updated look at how the first four rounds of this year’s draft could shake out:
1. Cincinnati Bengals
Joe Burrow | QB | LSU
Barring a last-minute trade offer that rivals the likes of Herschel Walker and Ricky Williams, this is going to be the pick. All the talk about Burrow not wanting to play in Cincinnati was just smoke, and the reigning Heisman Trophy winner has made it clear he’s got no problem being a Bengal.
2. Washington Redskins
Chase Young | EDGE | Ohio State
Much like the Bengals, Washington is likely to listen to any potential offers for this pick, but it’ll have to be a sweet deal to get them to give up the best player in the entire draft. Young is a dominant edge rusher with Hall of Fame potential, and while the Redskins have bigger needs elsewhere, Young’s talent and upside trumps all.
3. Detroit Lions
Jeff Okudah | CB | Ohio State
Now, this is where the action should really start. The Lions would love to move back a few spots here, and they’ll be trying to entice any team in need of a top quarterback prospect to swap with them. If they can’t, though, they have a glaring hole where Darius Slay used to be, and filling it with this year’s top cover man in Okudah makes the most sense.
4. New York Giants
Jedrick Wills, Jr. | OT | Alabama
It’s a great year to need an offensive tackle at the top of the draft, but that won’t stop the Giants from listening to offers for this pick. If they remain at No. 4, don’t be surprised if they make the fast-rising Wills the first tackle off the board. He’s been tested against some of college football’s best edge rushers in the SEC, and he’s ready to do the same against pro talent.
5. Miami Dolphins
Tua Tagovailoa | QB | Alabama
Yes, there are rumors the Dolphins prefer Justin Herbert, but I’m not buying. It’s been “Tank for Tua” for over a year, and if the Dolphins still get the chance to land him at No. 5 without trading up, it’s a no-brainer. Tagovailoa’s recovery from a nasty hip injury seems to be going extremely well, and if he’s healthy, he’s easily the better prospect with the higher ceiling.
6. Los Angeles Chargers
Justin Herbert | QB | Oregon
The Bolts have many needs, and quite a few quality options in this scenario, but nothing matters if you don’t have a franchise quarterback. Tyrod Taylor can be a solid bridge for now, but Herbert gives them a polished, experienced prospect who can quickly take the torch and replace Philip Rivers for the long run.
7. Carolina Panthers
Isaiah Simmons | LB | Clemson
Luke Kuechly’s unexpected retirement has left Carolina with a gaping hole at the heart of their defense, but this scenario gives them the perfect chance to find a dynamic replacement. Simmons is arguably the best athlete in this entire draft, and his versatility should allow him to make a huge impact all over the field at the next level.
8. Arizona Cardinals
Derrick Brown | DL | Auburn
Yes, offensive tackle is a need, and the Cards need to do everything they can to help Kyler Murray succeed. But that also means giving him a strong defense, and this team desperately needs a difference-maker in the middle to replace what they’ve been missing since Calais Campbell’s departure. Brown is a ridiculous athlete for his size, and a disruptive force up front.
9. Jacksonville Jaguars
CJ Henderson | CB | Florida
Our first big surprise of the top 10, but by Thursday, I’m betting it won’t be. Henderson’s combination of height, length, ball skills and instincts are absolutely worthy of top-10 consideration. The Jags have traded away Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Bouye in the last year, and they desperately need to find a true No. 1 corner in this draft.
10. Cleveland Browns
Andrew Thomas | OT | Georgia
Signing Jack Conklin in free agency shores up the right tackle spot, but the Browns still need a solution at left tackle. With only one tackle off the board at this point, it’s a great scenario for Cleveland, with multiple options that fit and give them great value. Thomas is the most polished, pro-ready prospect with tons of left tackle experience, making him the best fit.
11. New York Jets
Tristan Wirfs | OT | Iowa
A wide receiver is tempting here after the departure of Robby Anderson, but this year’s draft is much deeper at receiver than tackle, and the Jets badly need help at both spots. Wirfs’ athleticism is incredible, and he’s got the versatility to play either tackle spot or even slide inside to guard, if necessary.
12. Las Vegas Raiders
Jerry Jeudy | WR | Alabama
The Antonio Brown experiment failed miserably for the Raiders, leaving them still with a huge need for a true No. 1 receiver. None of them are off the board in this scenario, giving them a chance to add the best, most complete pass-catcher in this class. Jeudy has all the tools to quickly become a dynamic playmaker at the next level.
13. San Francisco 49ers (from IND)
CeeDee Lamb | WR | Oklahoma
When the 49ers traded DeForest Buckner for this pick, I have to think they had a top receiver in mind, and the board falls right to them. Lamb is a complete prospect in his own right, and brings exactly the kind of well-rounded skill set and big-play ability this offense needs. He’s a dangerous addition to an already talented roster.
14. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Mekhi Becton | OT | Louisville
Offensive tackle is easily Tampa Bay’s biggest need, so if any of the top four prospects are still on the board at that position, it’s a no-brainer. There will be questions about Becton’s flagged drug test at the NFL Scouting Combine, he’s got no prior history of failed tests in college, so I don’t think he falls too far. He’s a dominant blocker with tons of upside, and the Bucs just can’t pass that up here.
15. Denver Broncos
Henry Ruggs III | WR | Alabama
Ruggs may be the third receiver off the board, but he’s exactly the one the Broncos need. Courtland Sutton already gives them that big, physical target, but Ruggs brings elite speed and big-play ability the offense currently lacks. Don’t be surprised if the Broncos make a jump up the board and take Ruggs before Jeudy or Lamb.
16. Atlanta Falcons
Javon Kinlaw | DL | South Carolina
This entire defensive line is in desperate need of help, outside of Grady Jarrett. There’s quality talent on the board at both the EDGE spot and along the interior, so the Falcons go with the best overall prospect in Kinlaw. His combination of size, versatility, and a nonstop motor make him one of the most promising defenders in this entire class, and a steal outside the top 15.
17. Dallas Cowboys
K’Lavon Chaisson | EDGE | LSU
The secondary needs help, but the value isn’t there at corner or safety compared to other positions of need. Dallas fortified the interior of their defensive line with veterans in free agency, but they still need an edge rusher to pair with DeMarcus Lawrence. Chaisson has the physical tools and upside to become a dominant player.
18. Miami Dolphins (from PIT)
Cesar Ruiz | OL | Michigan
After taking Tua, this pick has to be about building around him and keeping him protected. Offensive tackle is usually the pick here, but this class is deeper at tackle than it is along the interior. Ruiz is just 20 years old, and by far the best interior prospect in this draft. He’s athletic, smart and loaded with potential, and there are too many teams who could snatch him before the Dolphins get another chance at No. 26.
19. Las Vegas Raiders (from CHI)
Jeff Gladney | CB | TCU
The Raiders addressed their need at linebacker in free agency, so after filling their biggest offensive need with Jeudy at No. 12, they have to find a blue-chip corner with this pick. Gladney may not have the size of other top corners in this class, but he more than makes up for it with physicality, instincts, intelligence and ball skills.
20. Jacksonville Jaguars (from LAR)
Josh Jones | OT | Houston
After getting a top corner at No. 9 overall, the Jags could go wide receiver or defensive line here, but the dark-horse candidate is an offensive lineman. This unit needs an upgrade if Gardner Minshew is going to win games consistently, and this scenario gives them a solid building block in Jones, who quieted concerns about his level of competition with a strong week at the Senior Bowl.
21. Philadelphia Eagles
Justin Jefferson | WR | LSU
Carson Wentz was throwing to roster-bubble pass-catchers by the end of last season, revealing a severe lack of quality depth at receiver. Thankfully for him and the Eagles, this year’s class is loaded with talent at the position, and they should have plenty of quality options here. Jefferson is smooth, polished, and able to make a big play out of any touch.
22. Minnesota Vikings (from BUF)
Brandon Aiyuk | WR | Arizona State
Minnesota traded Stefon Diggs for this pick (and more), so why not replace him here? One of the fastest-rising names in this year’s draft, Aiyuk wasn’t able to take part in Senior Bowl week, but his film is strong enough to warrant first-round consideration. He’s a complete pass-catcher with big-play ability.
23. New England Patriots
Xavier McKinney | S | Alabama
Quarterback is definitely a possibility here, but I don’t see Utah State’s Jordan Love as a fit for what New England wants at the position. Instead, they start a youth movement on the back end of their defense, where aging veterans are in the twilight of their careers. McKinney’s athleticism, versatility and intelligence will make him an instant-impact player.
24. New Orleans Saints
Kenneth Murray | LB | Oklahoma
Drew Brees is back for another season, so this pick will be about helping him instead of looking for his replacement. Sometimes the best way to help your quarterback is strengthening your defense, something the Saints need to do at the second level. Murray is a smart, athletic defender who can make plays all over the field.
25. Minnesota Vikings
Kristian Fulton | CB | LSU
After replacing Stefon Diggs with their first of two first-round picks, the Vikings desperately need to find a No. 1 corner with this selection. Fulton is a big, physical cover man with tons of experience playing press-man coverage, and he’s been tested by some of the nation’s most talented pass-catchers.
26. Miami Dolphins (from HOU)
Austin Jackson | OT | USC
The mission to protect Tua Tagovailoa continues for Miami, this time at offensive tackle. Jackson may not be as polished as some of this year’s top prospects at the position, but he’s got all the physical tools to quickly develop into a quality starter at left tackle. Miami uses one of the picks they got in return for Laremy Tunsil to replace him.
27. Seattle Seahawks
A.J. Epenesa | EDGE | Iowa
This defense needs help at every level, so this pick is about finding the best value. Epenesa is a tough, physical edge player who has the versatility to slide inside when necessary, allowing him to make an impact in any front. There are more athletic, more explosive edge rushers in this class, but few more well-rounded than Epenesa.
28. Baltimore Ravens
Denzel Mims | WR | Baylor
Lamar Jackson has an explosive, big-play threat in Marquise Brown, but he could use another go-to receiver with some size and physicality to him. That’s where Mims comes in, a big target with impressive speed for his frame. The league’s top-ranked rushing offense would be even more dangerous with Mims added to balance out the passing attack.
29. Tennessee Titans
Isaiah Wilson | OT | Georgia
Jack Conklin is gone, leaving a gaping hole in Tennessee at right tackle. The offensive line was the key to the Titans’ success last season, protecting Ryan Tannehill and paving the way for Derrick Henry. They need to make sure there’s no weak link in that unit this year, and Wilson is the perfect fit, thanks to his experience at right tackle against top competition.
30. Green Bay Packers
Jalen Reagor | WR | TCU
Davante Adams is one of the league’s best pass-catchers, but he could use a No. 2 who’s more than just a straight-line, downfield stretcher. Not that Reagor can’t take the top off a defense, but his quickness and polish as a route-runner makes him a more complete player than the other receivers on Green Bay’s roster.
31. San Francisco 49ers
Ross Blacklock | DL | TCU
No team likely wants to trade back in this draft more than the 49ers, who have no picks after this one until the fifth round. If forced to stick and pick here, though, replacing DeForest Buckner has to be high on the priority list. Blacklock is athletic, physical and versatile, and would be a fantastic addition to an already scary defensive front.
32. Kansas City Chiefs
Trevon Diggs | CB | Alabama
What do you get the team that has everything? Okay, so the defending Super Bowl champs have a few holes, and could even afford a luxury pick here. In this scenario, though, value lines up nicely with need for the Chiefs. Diggs has the size, length and athleticism they love at this position, and he’s absolutely worthy of a first-round pick.
