2020 NFL Draft Rankings By Conference

Everyone loves their own kids, TikToks, and NFL draft classes – even if they’re awful. And with all three, it takes a while to know if they’re any good.

So how do you rank an NFL Draft class right after the draft weekend?

Some sure-thing stars flame out, some no-names rise up, and all the research and knowledge in the world doesn’t mean a thing if a guy gets hurt.

The goal is to find decent starters – anything other than that is blind luck. Seriously, there’s less than a 15% chance that a pick taken after the top 100 will be a starter for a least three years for your team.

The NFL Draft Team Rankings are based on value – at least the generally acknowledged perceived value of the draft slot – the tools, and the upside of each pick. Also, throw into the equation whether or not the holes and team needs were filled.

With all that in mind, from the college football perspective, the 2020 NFL Draft Team Rankings are …

CFN 2020 NFL Draft Team Rankings, Thoughts
AFC East Buffalo | Miami | NY Jets | New England
AFC North Baltimore | Cincinnati | Cleveland | Pittsburgh
AFC South Houston | Indianapolis | Jacksonville | Tennessee
AFC West Denver | Kansas City | Las Vegas | LA Chargers
NFC East Dallas | NY Giants | Philadelphia | Washington
NFC North Chicago | Detroit | Green Bay | Minnesota
NFC South Atlanta | Carolina | New Orleans | Tennessee
NFC West Arizona | LA Rams | San Francisco | Seattle

32. New England Patriots 2020 NFL Draft

– The New England draft was freaking weird. At times, it was as if Bill Belichick and the Patriots were just picking random names of various college football players. There was little to no value with most of their selections in their respective spots, led by taking PK Justin Rohrwasser from Marshall – controversial tattoo and all – in the fifth. However …

2020 New England Patriots Draft Video

– There was certainly a plan when it came to the tight ends. Even with UCLA’s Devin Asiasi and Virginia Tech’s Dalton Keene in the third round – two decent prospects – there wasn’t a whole lot of value. There’s also a plan to get to the quarterback with Michigan’s Josh Uche and Alabama’s Anfernee Jennings.

– Kyle Dugger in the second round was a terrific pick. He’s an elite tools talent who should quickly help out an aging secondary, but he needs to be fantastic for this draft to end up working.

There were a whole lot of draft picks to play around with, and there wasn’t any maneuvering to take a shot at one of the sliding quarterbacks – signing Michigan State’s Brian Lewerke as an undrafted free agent. It appears to be Jarrett Stidham or bust.

Best Value Pick: TE Devin Asiasi, UCLA (3rd)
Biggest Reach: PK Justin Rohrwasser, Marshall (5th)
Late Flier That Could Work: OG Michael Onwenu, Michigan (6th)

31. New Orleans Saints 2020 NFL Draft

– Uhhhhhhh, okay. The Saints aren’t all that big on drafting for value, and they didn’t have a whole lot to work with in this year’s draft. They didn’t really need a center, and they overpaid for Cesar Ruiz with 24. They needed more wide receiver help, and there were plenty there in the first round and throughout the third when they had their chances.

2020 New Orleans Draft Video

– Where’s the help for the defensive side? Zack Baun is a first round talent who slid thanks to an off urine test at the combine, but that’s it. On the plus side, getting him and TE Adam Trautman in the third were two nice gets.

– The 7th round is a waste of time anyway, but Tommy Stevens? Really? For a team that didn’t go after much for its overall needs, that’s where you take a flier on an athlete who can help you in a variety of ways. Stevens is a quick cut if and when Jameis Winston is signed on.

Best Value Pick: LB Zack Baun, Wisconsin (3rd)
Biggest Reach: C/OG Cedar Ruiz, Michigan (1st)
Late Flier That Could Work: TE Adam Trautman, Dayton (3rd)

30. Pittsburgh Steelers 2020 NFL Draft

– The Steelers have earned the benefit of several dozen drafting doubts by this point, but this was a rough one. It’s not necessarily their fault considering they didn’t have a first rounder and had just two selections before the 124th pick, but there’s not a whole lot there to get cranked up over.

2020 Pittsburgh Steelers Draft Video

– Chase Claypool was a good shot for the stars. The very big, very athletic Notre Dame receiver has a nice upside, but he’s likely more of a puzzle piece than a draft-maker. That was sort of the issue with the entire Steeler draft …

– It’s a mish-mosh of talents and positions. The Steelers needed receiving help, and it got one. They needed linebackers who could rush the passer, and they got one in Charlotte’s Alex Highsmith. They had six picks and took six different positions with four coming after the first 120 selections. That’s a recipe for a lost draft.

Best Value Pick: LB Alex Highsmith, Charlotte (3rd)
Biggest Reach: RB Anthony McFarland, Maryland (4th)
Late Flier That Could Work: S Antoine Brooks, Maryland (6th)
2019 NFL Draft Ranking: 8

29. San Francisco 49ers 2020 NFL Draft

– It’s not awful considering there wasn’t much to work with. The 49ers traded around a bit to secure more future assets, and they still were able to help out the D line with Javon Kinlaw – the best tools DT in the draft – and get a deep threat target in WR Brandon Aiyuk. However …

2020 San Francisco 49ers Draft Video

– In a draft loaded with receivers, Aiyuk is a call. San Francisco needed help for the secondary, and it blew off a ton of promising corners and all the safeties for Aiyuk. If he’s not great, this draft doesn’t work.

– Colton McKivitz was a good get in the fifth, but that’s not exactly addressing the offensive line concerns. Since the sixth and seventh rounds are usually wastelands, that was where the Niners should’ve loaded up on bulk O line prospects with the hopes of hitting on one.

Best Value Pick: OT Colton McKivitz, West Virginia (5th)
Biggest Reach: WR Brandon Aiyuk, Arizona State (1st)
Late Flier That Could Work: WR Jauan Jennings, Tennessee (7th)

28. Seattle Seahawks 2020 NFL Draft

– Seattle just takes guys, and it never seems to care if anyone else wants them. Texas Tech LB Jordyn Brooks will make a ton of tackles for the Seahawks, but there was no need to pick him at the 27. Tennessee DE Darrell Taylor was taken a round too early, and most of the other picks were just guys to test out. But Seattle doesn’t care, because …

2020 Seattle Seahawks Draft Video

– The formula works. Seattle takes a lot of players, cuts the dead weight as soon as possible, and goes for the strength-in-numbers call. Outside of Syracuse pass rusher Alton Robinson, there isn’t any one pick that looks that great value-wise, but it’s Seattle. At least three of these selections will make an impact.

– It was an interesting call to go Brooks over LSU LB Patrick Queen. When it comes to guys who fit exactly what the Seahawks like to do, Queen is the elite athlete who was right there for the taking. He went one pick after Brooks to Baltimore.

Best Value Pick: DE Alton Robinson, Syracuse (5th)
Biggest Reach: LB Jordyn Brooks, Texas Tech (1st)
Late Flier That Could Work: TE Stephen Sullivan, LSU (7th)

27. Philadelphia Eagles 2020 NFL Draft

– Really, Philadelphia. What are you going to do with Jalen Hurts? You don’t take a quarterback with the 53rd overall pick just to design a few packages for him, and he’s not a receiver or special teamer. Basically, a team that had a whole lot of needs just got the guy who can step in and play when – not if – Carson Wentz gets hurt again. But if Wentz is able to stay in one piece, this big call might not work.

2020 Philadelphia Eagles Draft Video

– The rest of the draft is a big bag of whatever. The Hurts picks was actually inspired – it’s taking a chance on greatness – but that’s about it. Taking a fun wide receiver playmaker in Jalen Reagor one spot ahead of LSU’s Justin Jefferson will make or break the Eagle draft.

– Five of the team’s picks came from the fifth round on. Southern Miss WR Quez Watkins and Auburn OT Prince Tega Wanogho in the sixth could be fantastic.

Best Value Pick: WR Quez Watkins, Southern Miss (6th)
Biggest Reach: LB Davion Taylor, Colorado (3rd)
Late Flier That Could Work: OT Prince Tega Wanogho, Auburn (6th)

26. Houston Texans 2020 NFL Draft

– There’s something to be said for the WIN NOW approach and blowing off the draft for proven NFL players. The draft is one big guess, and the odds of connecting on more than one or two great starters are overwhelmingly awful. So credit Houston – who’s getting hammered hard lately – for doing a nice job of mixing various theoretical models to put this whole thing together.

2020 Houston Texans Draft Video

– Jonathan Greenard in the third is a stupid-great steal in the third, Be stunned if he’s not one of the best value picks in this whole thing. There wasn’t any wasted motion among the five picks.

– No one would’ve been stunned if Ross Blacklock went in the top 20. Getting him at 40 was fantastic, too. However, the Texans need a running back, and Jonathan Taylor went to Indianapolis at the 41.

Best Value Pick: LB/DE Jonathan Greenard, Florida (3rd)
Biggest Reach: CB John Reid, Penn State (4th)
Late Flier That Could Work: WR Isaiah Coulter, Rhode Island (5th)
2019 NFL Draft Ranking: 25

25. Chicago Bears 2020 NFL Draft

– This draft wasn’t a total dud, but it’s nothing great. They didn’t have a whole lot to work with – considering everything after the third round is a guess, anyway – and this draft class turns into a winner if Cole Kmet really does turn into an instant star among the ten tight ends on the roster.

2020 Chicago Bears Draft Video

– Jaylon Johnson is the biggest call. The Bears desperately needed help for the secondary, and the Utah corner is good, but they took him one pick ahead of Dallas grabbing Alabama corner Trevon Diggs. They also took Kmet one pick ahead of Cleveland grabbing LSU S Grant Delpit.

– No, taking two offensive linemen in the seventh round doesn’t address the problem. Chicago needed to find more help and depth for the O line, and asking a player from the last round is using hope for a strategy.

Best Value Pick: CB Kindle Vildor, Georgia Southern (5th)
Biggest Reach: (considering he was the first TE off the board) TE Cole Kmet, Notre Dame (2nd)
Late Flier That Could Work: LB Trevis Gipson, Tulsa (5th)
2019 NFL Draft Ranking: 30
2018 NFL Draft Ranking: 12

2 TE Cole Kmet, Notre Dame

24. Tennessee Titans 2020 NFL Draft

– Tennessee has its identity, and it’s going to keep feeding the system. So, it wants to pound the ball and be the nastiest most physical team going? Welcome to Isaiah Wilson, a killer of a power blocker from Georgia to keep on blasting away.

2020 Tennessee Titans Draft Video

– There wasn’t a whole lot to work with. There were just three picks in the first 173 and just six overall. Forget about the seventh-rounders, but NC State Larrell Murchison has the run stopping ability to fit in the rotation.

– Appalachian State RB Darrynton Evans is a good all-around back who should be a nice complement to Derrick Henry. However, the Titans took LSU CB Kristian Fulton one pick before Green Bay took Boston College RB AJ Dillon. Literally, that would’ve been a power move.

Best Value Pick: DT Larrell Murchison, NC State (5th)
Biggest Reach: RB Darrynton Evans, Appalachian State (3rd)
Late Flier That Could Work: S Chris Jackson, Marshall (7th)

23. Kansas City Chiefs 2020 NFL Draft

– It’s a typical Kansas City draft, which means it didn’t do anything conventional. It’s impossible to argue against what the best team in the NFL does, but there’s little to no value with any of the picks – it did the same thing last year.

2020 Kansas City Chiefs Draft Video

– The interior of the lines didn’t get any help, and just about every pick was a reach. The Chiefs needed some bulk at defensive tackle, and could’ve used a good guard for the offensive side. Both were there late in the second round when they took Mississippi State LB Willie Gay.
<br
– Clyde Edwards-Helaire should work – he’s a nice fit for the offense, but so is any good running back. He had better be great, considering KC should’ve traded down for him. There was little to no value in taking an RB there.

Best Value Pick: OT Lucas Niang, TCU (3rd)
Biggest Reach: RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire, LSU (1st)
Late Flier That Could Work: DE Mike Danna, Michigan (5th)

22. Green Bay Packers 2020 NFL Draft

– Ohhhhhhh, no, Aaron Rodgers. After being in the exact same situation in 2005, you don’t get to complain. This is an absolutely perfect value call at the 26 by the Packers. Jordan Love needs time and seasoning, Rodgers can still be the main man for the next two years, and then the change can be made. In terms of tools and upside, Love has it all. The rest of the draft ….

2020 Green Bay Packers Draft Video

– Meh. When your draft has six of the eight picks in the fifth round and beyond, there’s a problem. RB AJ Dillon is the tough guy back who should be a great fit in the rotation with Aaron Jones, but after that … meh.

– Rodgers does have the right to complain about the lack of wide receiver help. This was an epic and deep class for wideouts, and Green Bay didn’t get one. TE Josiah Deguara was a massive value reach in the third round.

Best Value Pick: QB Jordan Love, Utah State (1st)
Biggest Reach: TE Josiah Deguara, Cincinnati (3rd)
Late Flier That Could Work: DE Jonathan Garvin, Miami (7th)

21. Atlanta Falcons 2020 NFL Draft

– You had ONE job, Atlanta … get pass rushing help. It didn’t happen, even though the draft was loaded with pass rushers and hybrid options to play around with. However …

2020 Atlanta Falcons Draft Video

– Considering there were only five picks, it wasn’t a bad run. Jaylinn Hawkins was a nice value shot at safety in the fourth, and getting a punter who knows how to kick well inside – like Syracuse’s Sterling Hofrichter – wasn’t a bad call. However …

– AJ Terrell at the 16 might have been a bit of an overreach. It’s not that he’s bad – he’s a terrific-looking corner – but LSU DE K’Lavin Chaisson was right there to grab for a need spot. This was a deep class of corners – there were chances later to grab a good one.

Best Value Pick: C Matt Hennessy, Temple (3rd)
Biggest Reach: CB AJ Terrell, Clemson (1st)
Late Flier That Could Work: P Sterling Hofrichter, Syracuse (7th)

20. Carolina Panthers 2020 NFL Draft

– Apparently, new head coach Matt Rhule doesn’t like a whole lot about his defense – and for good reason. The Panthers needed absolutely everything for the defensive side, and it all started with two superstars for the line. Auburn’s Derrick Brown is the Face of the Franchise type of leader to grab as the first pick of the new regime, and Penn State pass rusher Yetur Gross-Matos needs to shine on the outside. However …

2020 Carolina Panthers Draft Video

– It’s not like the Panthers got a whole lot of value. Brown, Gross-Matos, and ultra-athletic S Jeremy Chinn were strong picks, and Notre Dame CB Troy Pride was a nice get in the fourth, but they all went around where they were supposed to. The last three picks were simply late round fliers.

– Oddly enough, even with with all seven picks going to the defensive side, there wasn’t anything for the linebacking corps. The line got the stars, and the secondary got four new bodies, but the linebackers are going to be thin going into the season.

Best Value Pick: CB Troy Pride, Notre Dame (4th)
Biggest Reach: S Kenny Robinson, West Virginia (5th)
Late Flier That Could Work: DT Bravvion Roy, Baylor (6th)

19. New York Giants 2020 NFL Draft

– This is the New York Giants deciding to be the New York Giants again. To do that, the offensive line has to be fantastic so the backfield tandem of Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley can have a fighting chance. However, Andrew Thomas was a massive stretch at the 4. The Georgia OT is a fantastic prospect, but it’s a loaded group at the position and there should’ve been some way to trade down considering the quarterbacks that went right after.

2020 New York Giants Draft Video

– It wasn’t just Thomas. Getting Matt Peart in the third and Shane Lemieux in the fifth kept the commitment to the O line going, and then it was all about the linebacking corps. Four linebackers were selected, but they were all taken in the final two rounds, including Mr. Irrelevant, Tae Crowder of Georgia. If just one turns into a real starter, consider it a success.

– Alabama S Xavier McKinney fell right into their lap at the 36. Combine him with CB Darnay Holmes in the fourth round, and the Giants did a great job of addressing the secondary needs.

Best Value Pick: S Xavier McKinney, Alabama (2nd)
Biggest Reach: OT Andrew Thomas, Georgia (1st)

18. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2020 NFL Draft

– Considering many believed Tristan Wirfs was going to the Giants at the 4, getting him at the 13 was a nice pick to throw into the offensive line mix right away. It’s asking for the world for a rookie tackle to keep Tom Brady upright, but he’ll help the cause.

2020 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Draft Video

– The Bucs are rowing the boat. Antoine Winfield is a ball-magnet of a safety who’ll make an instant impact in the defensive backfield, and fellow Golden Gopher teammate Tyler Johnson should be a reliable No. 3 option on a team loaded with receiver talent.

– Getting RB help was a must, but taking Ke’Shawn Vaughn in the third was a bit of a reach in a deep draft for the position. The Bucs needed defensive end help, and Jabari Zuniga and Anfernee Jennings were still on the board.

Best Value Pick: WR Tyler Johnson, Minnesota (5th)

17. Los Angeles Rams 2020 NFL Draft

– It’s not like the team is all that far removed from a Super Bowl appearance, and yet it was able to address a slew of needs and improve in a hurry. It would’ve been a plus to grab a defensive tackle or two to add to the rotation, but it was a good draft considering the first pick didn’t come until the 52.

2020 Los Angeles Rams Draft Video

– LA’s first two picks might have been for the offensive side, but grabbing two linebackers and two safeties was a must.Clemson’s Tremayne Anchrum is a good blocker who doesn’t fit the type – it’s why he went in the seventh – but a lot more help is needed for the offensive interior.

– Cam Akers is an interesting call. He’s got the talent to blow up now that he’s not working behind the Florida State line, but the Rams drafted Todd Gurley’s replacement instead of Ohio State’s JK Dobbins.

Best Value Pick: LB Terrell Lewis, Alabama (3rd)

16. Denver Broncos 2020 NFL Draft

– Apparently, Denver would like to give Drew Lock some help. The team needed help for plenty of spots, but Alabama WR Jerry Jeudy fell right into its lap at the 15. If that wasn’t enough speed and quickness, it got its own potential version of Tyreek Hill in Penn State’s KJ Hamler in the second round.

And then came the sneaky-good get – Locks’s Missouri tight end, Albert Okwuegbunam fell to the fourth round. Florida’s Tyrie Cleveland in the seventh round wasn’t a bad flier, either.

2020 Denver Broncos Draft Video

– What the Broncos didn’t do was give Lock more protection. Fresno State OG Netane Muti in the sixth round was at least a body to throw at the line, but they didn’t take any offensive tackles in a draft loaded with them. However …

– LSU C Lloyd Cushenberry was a terrific pick in the third round. It became a strength-in-bodies draft late – if either fourth-rounder Justin Strnad from Wake Forest or seventh-round pick Derrk Tuszka from North Dakota State pans out, it would be huge – but Jeudy and Hamler will make-or-break this group.

Best Value Pick: C Lloyd Cushenberry, LSU (3rd)

15. Washington Redskins 2020 NFL Draft

– Washington wants to give Dwayne Haskins some help. Antonio Gibson from Memphis and Liberty’s Antonio Gandy-Golden need to be big immediate helps for the receiving corps, but neither one is a sure thing. The bigger parts to the puzzle should be LSU’s Saahdiq Charles and San Diego State C Keith Ismael.

2020 Washington Redskins Draft Video

– Oh yeah … and there’s Chase Young. There wasn’t a trade out of the No. 2 pick, there wasn’t any wavering, and there was a no-brainer pick who should change around the franchise. However …

– It’s Young, and a bunch of guys. Again, the offensive linemen have a chance to shine, but whatever on the late picks, and receivers in the mid-rounds are always way too flaky to ever count on.

14. Cincinnati Bengals 2020 NFL Draft

– Of course the draft is all about Joe Burrow, but the Bengals did a whole lot more than take its franchise quarterback. They crushed the calls at linebacker, getting tackling-machine Logan Wilson from Wyoming in the third round, havoc-wreaker Akeem Davis-Gaither from Appalachian State in the fourth, and taking a shot at a huge value get with Purdue’s Markus Bailey – he slid because of his bad knees – in the seventh.

2020 Cincinnati Bengals Draft Video

– Snapping up Clemson WR Tee Higgins with the first pick in the second round was a terrific must-get for Burrow, but that was it. The Bengals need more overall firepower, and they didn’t go after it. There’s a reason they had the No. 1 overall pick, and it’s going to take a whole lot more work to dig out of this. And, of course …

– Burrow had better be something amazing. Chase Young was there. The opportunities to trade down were there. Jordan Love slid to the late first round, Jacob Eason and Jake Fromm tumbled down the draft. This draft is all about whether or not Burrow can become a superstar who can carry the franchise. If he’s anything less, not taking Young might be brutally painful in hindsight.

Best Value Pick: LB Akeem Davis-Gaither, Appalachian State (4th)
Biggest Reach: QB Joe Burrow, LSU (1st)
Late Flier That Could Work: LB Markus Bailey, Purdue (7th)

13. Buffalo Bills 2020 NFL Draft

– There’s a whole lot to like about what Buffalo did. The team didn’t need to fill a whole lot of glaring holes – it needed to upgrade the overall talent level, and do it without a first round pick. So what does a team that doesn’t have a big issues do? It takes the best kicker in the draft – Georgia Southern’s Tyler Bass – and …

2020 Buffalo Bills Draft Video

– It takes the ridiculous-value quarterback who could step in and start if needed. Jake Fromm is the opposite of Josh Allen. Allen has all the tools, but had a light college resumé, and flip that for Fromm. In the fifth round, yeah, absolutely. It’s a cheap get for a solid talent.

– LOVE getting DE AJ Epenesa in the second and RB Zack Moss in the third. These are tough guys among tough guys who’ll bring the motor and attitude on every play. Bills fans are going to love both of them.

Best Value Pick: QB Jake Fromm, Georgia (5th)

12. Las Vegas Raiders 2020 NFL Draft

– Damon Arnette. He’s a good prospect, and he should be a decent player, but the Ohio State corner was a MASSIVE value reach at the 19. This was a class loaded with corners, and Mike Mayock took a third rounder in the first 20 picks. Other than that, everything else about this was strong.

2020 Las Vegas Raiders Draft Video

– Of course Henry Ruggs was going to be the WR call at the 12. It doesn’t matter what city the Raiders are in, they’re always going to default to the guy with raw speed. However, heaven help them if Jerry Jeudy really is the best all-around receiver talent in this draft- especially at Denver.

– Mayock might make the bad-value defiant pick once in a while, but this year he went with a whole lot of really good college football players. There might be some question about the tools of the later picks, but WR Bryan Edwards, WR Lynn Bowden, OG John Simpson, and CB Amik Robertson are football players.

Best Value Pick: CB Amik Robertson, Louisiana Tech (4th)
Biggest Reach: CB Damon Arnette, Ohio State (1st)
Late Flier That Could Work: OG John Simpson, Clemson (4th)

11. Los Angeles Chargers 2020 NFL Draft

– BOOM. Of course they’re not going to connect on all six picks, but at least there’s reasonable justification that they nailed it with the right call at the right time at each and every spot. They didn’t get a corner or any help for the offensive line, but there’s no beef whatsoever with any of the picks.

2020 Los Angeles Chargers Draft Video

– The knock on Justin Herbert is that he’s chill. Whatever. He’s got better tools than Joe Burrow and the all-around talent to grow into the job as the quarterback the franchise needs to build around. You want the vocal leader who’ll be the heart-and-soul type? That’s what LB Kenneth Murray is for as a great get at the 23.

– There’s no real reach with any of the picks. It’s asking a lot for Joe Reed and/or KJ Hill to be special as later round receiver gets, but they both make sense as reliable targets to round out the corps.

Best Value Pick: S Alohi Gilman, Notre Dame (6th)
Biggest Reach: WR Joe Reed, Virginia (5th)

10. Detroit Lions 2020 NFL Draft

– It’s a really, really smart draft … to a point. The Lions didn’t mess around, staying at the 3 and got the franchise corner in Jeff Okudah. They caught a massive break when RB D’Andre Swift fell into their lap in the second round. However …

2020 Detroit Lions Draft Video

– God help them if Jacob Eason is great. They already went offensive guard in the third round with Ohio State’s Jonah Jackson, and Eason was right there in a phenomenal value spot in the fourth round to address their future quarterback concerns. Instead, they took Kentucky OG Logan Stenberg. Eason went one pick later to Indianapolis.

– When asked, Okudah said the toughest receiver he had to face in college was Wisconsin’s Quintez Cephus. The Lions grabbed the former Badger star in the fifth round.

Best Value Pick: WR Quintez Cephus, Wisconsin (5th)

9. Baltimore Ravens 2020 NFL Draft

– Baltimore has a way of being right there when good players are available to be taken. Seattle took Texas Tech LB Jordyn Brooks at the 27, and LSU’s Patrick Queen was right there for the Ravens. The Rams took FSU RB Cam Akers, and three picks later JK Dobbins was on the board. This franchise is great at taking the right players at the right times.

2020 Baltimore Ravens Draft Video

– Even late, there’s a lot to get excited about. No one would’ve said anything if SMU WR James Proche was selected in the fourth round – he fell to the sixth. Iowa’s Geno Stone is a terrific flier at safety – he fell to the seventh.

– It would’ve been nice to have grabbed a pass rusher or two, but that’s nitpicking. It was a strong all-around draft that checked a lot of boxes, but grabbing a DE among the nine picks didn’t happen.

Best Value Pick: DT Justin Madubuike, Texas A&M (3rd)

8. Jacksonville Jaguars 2020 NFL Draft

– The only knock is Gardner Minshew. With a gajillion picks, the Jaguars had shot after shot after shot at taking Jacob Eason or Jake Fromm as another option to at least compete for the gig, and they kept on passing. However, they passed on the QB for a whole slew or really, really good gets.

2020 Jacksonville Jaguars Draft Video

– They needed a corner and an edge rusher, and they connected with both of their first round picks. CJ Henderson and K’Lavon Chaisson were the right calls at the right time, and they nailed the value from then on. WRs Laviska Shenault and Collin Johnson will both be major factors.

– Good for Jacksonville for grabbing Miami’s Shaq Quarterman. He doesn’t have the NFL tools, but in the fourth round he might just be a spectacular home run get for the middle of the linebacking corps.

Best Value Pick: WR Collin Johnson, Texas (5th)
Biggest Reach: QB Jake Luton, Oregon State (6th)

7. Cleveland Browns 2020 NFL Draft

– Seriously, where’s the wrong pick? Of course all seven picks won’t work – you’re doing your job of two of them turn into major factors – but the Browns nailed the right value call at each and every spot, and it all started with OT Jedrick Willis at the 10.

2020 Cleveland Browns Draft Video

– Grant Delpit might have been a top 15 overall pick in last year’s draft. That might be a wee bit of a stretch, but he slid throughout the last 12 months as a prospect, but he’s still a brilliant playmaker and leader. He could be an instant quarterback of the D.

– C Nick Harris might be the rare sixth-rounder who’ll stick. At the very least, WR Donovan Peoples-Jones was a great idea in the seventh, and watch out for FAU TE Harrison Bryant in the fourth round. Bold call – two of the three will be good starters.

Best Value Pick: TE Harrison Bryant, Florida Atlantic (4th)

6. Minnesota Vikings 2020 NFL Draft

– If it seemed like the Vikings were always drafting, it’s because they were. However, even with a bajillion picks, they always seemed to get a good value guy who was dropping a bit. It started with landing WR Justin Jefferson and CB Jeff Gladney in the first round, and it kept on going.

2020 Minnesota Vikings Draft Video

– They got football players. Baylor DE James Lynch and LB Troy Dye might not have all of the right NFL tools, but they’re both going to be coaches someday. In the fourth round, they’re the type of smart, relentless, worry-free ballers who are great fill-ins on the depth chart.

– Nate Stanley could be a quietly-great grab in the seventh round. He’s got NFL skill and upside, and he should be able to develop as a nice backup QB option behind Kirk Cousins.

Best Value Pick: DE James Lynch, Baylor (4th)
Biggest Reach: CB Harrison Hand, Temple (5th)

5. Indianapolis Colts 2020 NFL Draft

– There’s a great mix of help for right now and a nod to the near future. USC’s Michael Pittman is a professional wide receiver who’ll be a big help for Phil Rivers, and getting Jonathan Taylor with the 41st pick was a gift from the gods. But …

2020 Indianapolis Colts Draft Video

– Jacob Eason in the fourth round was a ridiculous dream of a get – at least in terms of value. No one would’ve blinked if the Washington quarterback had gone at the end of the first round, but he slid and slid and slid. Now the Colts have a starting quarterback to develop behind Rivers for the next year or three, and they didn’t have to invest anything big to get him.

– It’s a strength-in-numbers class late. With four sixth-rounders, the hope is for just one to stick and make a difference. Washington State route-runner Dezmon Patmon might be that guy. Ball State OG Danny Pinter in the fifth round was a strong late flier who could stick as a swing interior blocker.

Best Value Pick: QB Jacob Eason, Washington (4th)

4. Miami Dolphins 2020 NFL Draft

– As long as you’re thinking about the 2022 team and not anything that’s going to happen over the next two years, this is a phenomenal draft. USC’s Austin Jackson might be the best tackle in the draft once he develops. Robert Hunt and Solomon Kindley were great gets for the interior, and all the blockers were a must to protect Tua.

2020 Miami Dolphins Draft Video

– That the Dolphins didn’t have to trade up to to get Tagovailoa was an absolute steal. If he can stay healthy, he’s it. He’s the one. He’s the top pick and the top passer in this draft. Now the rest of the team has to fill in around him, and that’s what this terrific draft was about.

– It would’ve been nice if Miami had jumped on a top RB. It had several chances at D’Andre Swift or JK Dobbins, and Jonathan Taylor would’ve been perfect for what the team is looking to do.

Best Value Pick: DE Curtis Weaver, Boise State (5th)

3. New York Jets 2020 NFL Draft

– There’s nothing to quibble over – the Jets checked a box with almost every pick. I’m not the biggest fan of Mekhi Becton, but there’s no arguing with giving Sam Darnold a big blocker to keep him upright. The QB also got a flash of a deep threat in Denzel Mims to play with. Don’t be shocked if Texas A&M P Braden Mann in the sixth turns out to be the team’s sneaky-strongest pick.

2020 New York Jets Draft Video

– LOVE the defensive back picks. They nailed the call on Cal safety Ashtyn Davis in the third and the injured – but talented – corner Bryce Hall in the fifth. Those two are value ballers who slid.

– The James Morgan pick makes a little sense, but over Jake Fromm and Jacob Eason? Darnold is the franchise, and Morgan is a big-arm bomber with the smarts to step in right away and help the cause, but that was a big call in the fourth.

Best Value Pick: CB Bryce Hall, Virginia (5th)

2. Dallas Cowboys 2020 NFL Draft

– It’s fun and easy for everyone to fire on Jerry Jones and how the organization works, but the Cowboys are good at this drafting thing. It’s not that hard – take the great college football players who also have NFL tools. Duh. Dallas does that really well.

2020 Dallas Cowboys Draft Video

– Wisconsin’s Tyler Biadasz is a starting NFL center. Dallas got him in the fourth round. Oklahoma’s Neville Gallimore is a big-time athlete and leader for the defensive interior. He went in the third. Utah’s Bradlee Anae is an ultra-productive fighter of a pass rusher who’ll instantly step into the rotation. He went in the fifth. Again, this shouldn’t be that hard.

– Oh yeah … CeeDee Lamb. He might not be the wide receiver prospect that Jerry Jeudy or Henry Ruggs are, but that’s a guess. There were three superstar pass catching prospects in this draft, and Dallas got one of them at a good value spot at the 17.

Best Value Pick: C Tyler Biadasz, Wisconsin (4th)

1. Arizona Cardinals 2020 NFL Draft

– Seriously, where’s the unjustifiable call? Where’s the reach? Where’s the draft pick among just the six that doesn’t look right? Even in the seventh round, RB Eno Benjamin was an outstanding get. LB Evan Weaver in the sixth? He might lead the team in tackles if he’s asked to sit there on the inside and eat everything up. If one of the two fourth round defensive tackles works out, the draft is a massive success.

2020 Arizona Cardinals Draft Video

– Isaiah Simmons is one of the three best players in this draft, and prospect-wise, he might be second behind Chase Young. It’s ridiculous that he fell to the eight. Merry Christmas, Arizona. Combine that with OT Josh Jones – a fringe first round prospect – falling to the third, and … boom.

– To nitpick, it would’ve been nice to come up with a young wide receiver. DeAndre Hopkins can’t do it all alone, and Kyler Murray could use as many options as possible.

Best Value Pick: OT Josh Jones, Houston (3rd)
Biggest Reach: (There isn’t one, but …) DT Rashard Lawrence, LSU (4th)
Late Flier That Could Work: LB Evan Weaver, Cal (6th)
