2020 NFL Draft: Ranking the top-5 OG prospects

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ offensive line struggles have been something that has plagued the team for quite some time now. In 2019, Pro Football Focus ranked the Jags’ line 26th in the league, certainly not an encouraging figure. The Jaguars’ biggest hole comes at right guard. The team re-signed A.J. Cann to an extension following the 2018 season, however, the former third-round pick has failed to live up to expectations.

The Jaguars likely will be on the hunt for some guard competition this week. Here are my top-5 guards in the NFL Draft:

Netane Muti

Netane Muti is one powerful man. He was Fresno State’s best offensive lineman and his nasty nature has caught the eye of many onlookers. He’s a bulldozing run-blocker and makes the most out of his strength. Muti doesn’t quite fit the Jaguars’ threshold for offensive linemen, but he’s arguably the draft’s best guard and could instantly compete with Cann.

Jonah Jackson

Jonah Jackson is a different style guard than what Jacksonville prefers. Until recently Jacksonville has thrived in a power-run offense with Leonard Fournette carrying the load. With new offensive coordinator Jay Gruden, the team may be more open to some other types of linemen across the offensive front. Jackson brings excellent athletic ability and balance to the position. He’s a bit of a odd-ball for Jacksonville, but regardless he’s a good player.

Robert Hunt

Robert Hunt is a mauler. He’s the most powerful man on this list and he lets opposing teams know it too. He’s got a heavy anchor and plays with a nasty attitude. He also hits the Jaguars’ benchmarks for size. I think he’s a guy the Jags are looking at around the late Day 2 to early Day 3 range of the draft and would fit in nicely at right guard.

Solomon Kindley

The Georgia alum is one of the draft’s most powerful guards. He isn’t the most mobile of them, but in a gap/power scheme he’s got everything that you want. The Jaguars have already met with Kindley and seem intrigued by the Bulldog. He’s a lot like Cann in a lot of ways but brings better size and power to the table than him.

Ben Bredeson

Ben Bredeson is a bit of a jack of all trades but master of none. He brings good power, fair athleticism to the table, and is scheme diverse. There’s a lot to like about Bredeson, just nothing to fall in love with. He’s a solid Day 2 guard and could compete with Cann for that right guard position. I’m simply not sure he’s a guy that makes the team that much better though.
