2020 NFL draft: NFL will be able to pause draft for technical difficulties

When the NFL launches the 2020 NFL draft next week they will do so under completely unique circumstances. Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, franchises are not going to convene in a central location and will be forced to work literally from their homes making the draft a very tech-heavy event in terms of communications.

Since teams won’t be in their own war rooms and will instead be contacting other teams by phone while also operating their own video conferencing with staff, the chance for delays and problems is higher. But according to NFL writer Chris Burke, the NFL will have a pause button.

This means when a team goes on the clock if there are technical issues like lag or loss of audio, the NFL can pause the clock to let them get things right before starting it back up and letting teams make trades or picks.
