2020 NFL Draft: Giants’ division rivals all got better

Fans of the New York Giants might be crowing over how their team got better in the 2020 NFL Draft, but few have peeked over the fence to see how their NFC East neighbors did.

They all got better, too.

The Dallas Cowboys turned over a new leaf in changing their coaching staff after 10 years of Jason Garrett, but they didn’t change their impulsive ownership as they drafted a speedy wide receiver (CeeDee Lamb) out of Jerry Jones’ alma mater.

Jones may have hit the jackpot with Lamb, the explosive game breaker Jerry has been craving for years, but the rest of his draft may even be better. Travon Diggs, Neville Gallimore, Reggie Robinson and Bradlee Anea can all become starters on defense and Tyler Biadasz will likely step right in at center.

The Philadelphia Eagles went off the page with wideout Jalen Reagor in Round 1 but after that, general manager Howie Roseman hit solid doubles and triples the next six rounds. Reagor might be the new DeSean Jackson for all we know or the new Nelson Agholor. We’ll see.

The selection of Jalen Hurts makes more sense than people think. Carson Wentz has shown durability issues and having a player like Hurts won’t, well, hurt. Roseman filled out the rest of his draft sheet with NFL-caliber talent on both sides of the football: Davion Taylor, K’Von Wallace, John Hightower, Jack Driscoll, Quez Watkins, Shaun Bradley, Prince Tega Wanogho and Casey Toohill.

The Washington Redskins weren’t outdone in this draft by any stretch. They got the best overall player in the class in Chase Young. The Giants are fooling themselves if they think Nate Solder is going to block him. More of reason to fast track Andrew Thomas at the left tackle spot.

The Redskins are also under new management and pretty much nailed the rest of the draft. In Round 2, they selected Memphis RB/WR Antonio Gibson, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound jackknife of a player that can either run over you or around you. Choose your poison. If you’ve never heard of him, don’t worry, you will.

The next four players Washington picked will all eventually be starters: Saadiq Charles, Antonio Gandy-Golden, Keith Ismael and Khaleke Hudson. A nice start to the Kyle Allen-Ron Rivera era.
