2020 NFL draft: Colts awarded no compensatory picks

As expected, the Indianapolis Colts were awarded no compensatory picks in the 2020 NFL draft.

Because the Colts didn’t lose any big-time free agents in 2019 and because they signed a few players last year, the formula didn’t allow for them to receive any additional picks between the end of the third round through the seventh round.

Only a total of 32 compensatory picks can be handed out from the league. It usually goes to teams that lost a lot of valuable players in free agency the year prior.

Even though the Colts didn’t receive any extra draft capital, that doesn’t mean they won’t be impacted by the changes. Their selections starting in the fourth round are likely to be pushed back a few spots because of the additions being made for other teams.

The New England Patriots led the way with four compensatory picks, which included two at the end of the fourth round. The Houston Texans received the highest compensatory pick, which came in the third round at No. 97 overall.
