2020 Munster Senior Hurling Championship draw: Limerick and Clare clash doubles up as league final

The draw for the Munster Senior Hurling Championship has thrown up a novelty clash as Limerick and Clare's quarter-final date will double up as this year's league final.

The GAA earlier announced that Limerick had been declared Division 1A winners and Clare 1B victors, and that a potential meeting between the pair in Championship would also count as this year's league final.

The league champions will go on to face Tipperary and in the other Munster semi-final, old rivals Waterford and Cork will square off.

In a revised Championship format due to the coronavirus suspension, the provincial competitions start with ten counties split evenly between Leinster and Munster SHCs, which will be straight knockout instead of round-robin.

Unlike in football, there will be a back door for those beaten in the province with six teams reduced to two come the All-Ireland quarter-final stage, when they take on beaten provincial finalists.

Provincial winners will advance straight to the All-Ireland semi-finals and there will be no replays this year, with games decided by extra-time and penalties if necessary.
