2020 Hyundai Elantra GT N-Line Review: 3 Reasons Why I’d Buy It

If you’re looking for a fun yet affordable little hatchback than the 2020 Hyundai Elantra GT N Line is a solid choice. It starts at $23,500 with a six-speed manual and a turbocharged 1.6L, I-4 creating 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque at just 1,500 rpm. Weighing in at only 3,000 pounds, it’s able to zip around town with just 195 lb-ft of torque.

The Value Proposition

The Elantra GT N Line has positioned itself as the value buy in the segment. Others to consider would be the Honda Civic Si and VW Golf. However, the Civic costs around $3,000 more while the golf is about the same price as the Elantra GT N Line. Sure, the VW is going to offer a higher-quality interior. Still, one must appreciate the extra 54 horsepower under the hood. The Elantra GT N Line is also more under the radar than the Civic Si. If you have a family and don’t want to look like a recently graduated college student, the Elantra GT N Line would be right up your alley.

Peppy Around Town

Between the 6-speed manual option and the 201 horsepower turbo I-4, it’s actually a fun little car to tool around in. The N Line model has an upgraded suspension and steering tune, revised powertrain mounts, and summer tires. Plus, it has a multi-link independent rear suspension with larger front and rear brake rotors. All of these upgrades result in better overall performance making a case for the N Line; it’s not just a badge. I found the manual unengaging, which is why I’d opt for the optional 7-speed dual-clutch, which I’ve tested before and really enjoyed its responsiveness. While it’s no VW GTI, the Elantra GT N Line is a great little package for those looking to enjoy spirited driving on the weekends.

Upgraded N Line Styling Points

There’s no getting around the fact that the Elantra GT isn’t the most eye-catching vehicle on the road. It by no means looks bad, just not very exciting. Thankfully, the N Line model gets a lower front facia for increased aerodynamic efficiency and a unique N Line version of Hyundai’s Cascading Grille with a distinctive silver character line. You’ll also notice blacked outside mirrors with turn signals, N Line badging, N Line 18-inch wheels, and Michelin Pilot Sport 4 225/40 R18 summer tires; on the rear, a more robust bumper fascia further highlights the N theme.
