It’s hard to keep track of who’s in the running for the Democratic presidential nomination these days – but Jimmy Kimmel is hoping the power of music will bring people more clarity.
The late-night host shared a tune dedicated to the presidential race on his Tuesday night show, telling the audience: “There are a lot of Democrats in the race right now. There are so many, and we’re going to be hearing a lot about them over the coming year.
“So we’ve come up with a song to help you remember their names.”
Kimmel then started singing the song, set to a melody reminiscent of ”Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” in Disney’s 1964 Mary Poppins film starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke.
The tune’s lyrics consist in the names of all 24 Democratic candidates currently in the running for the 2020 nomination, one after the other.
The (surprisingly catchy) tune was met with claps and cheers from the audience after Kimmel performed it a second time, urging the crowd to join him.
Democrats won’t pick their nominee for another year.
The Democratic National Committee has already upped the ante for its second round of presidential primary debates, doubling the polling and grassroots fundraising requirements from its initial summer debates.
The parameters, announced on Wednesday, will likely help cull the crop of 24 candidates and intensify scrutiny on Democratic Chairman Tom Perez and his pledge to give all candidates a chance to be heard.
