Key players

Jenni Hermoso

GABRIEL BOUYS / AFP

The Atlético Madrid star has scored 24 goals for her club this season, and she’ll need to add to international total with former Spain captain and all-time top scorer Verónica Boquete out of the squad. Hermoso is fouth on the all-time scoring chart with 28 goals.

Patricia Guijarro

The midfielder is a star for Barcelona, and helped Spain win the UEFA U-19 championship in 2017. In March of 2018, Guijarro scored the second goal in a 2-0 win over Italy in the Cyprus Cup final.

Recent World Cup history

Spain qualified for it’s first-ever Women’s World Cup in 2015, and finished the group stage with a draw and two losses.

Spain was the first European side to earn a spot in the 2019 World Cup, and has made back-to-back trips to the quarterfinals in the Women’s Euro. Spain is a country on the rise, though, as the U-20 team finished second at the 2018 World Cup, while the U-17 team won the World Cup.

What experts are saying about Spain.

Via Charles Olney of Stars and Stripes FC:

“When everything is clicking, Spain move the ball with lightning speed through a series of one-touch passes, and it all looks as pretty as any nation in the world. The problem is: it doesn’t always click. When it doesn’t, they lack the cutting edge to manufacture goals through more direct means. And given the tough group, they may flatter to deceive once again.
