2019 Way-Too-Early Preseason Super 25 Football Rankings: Bubble Teams

When ranking the top football teams several months in advance, it’s impossible to know how they’ll truly look.

With that in mind, rankings are based purely off how the team looks at this point in time. Nobody is yet aware of offseason transfers, and even historically dominant teams such as Allen (Texas) and De La Salle (Concord, Calif.), look behind some other teams at this juncture.

RANKINGS: Way-Too-Early Preseason Super 25 Football

It’s not just those two. Lots of other teams look good but are missing one or two pieces that will either be unveiled in transfers or as players develop going into the season.

Here are five teams that very nearly made it into the 2019 Way-Too-Early Super 25 Football rankings:

<p><strong>Location: </strong>Corona, Calif.<br /> <strong>2018-19 record:</strong> 12-1<br /> <strong>Final Super 25 Rank: </strong>14<br /> <strong>Why them</strong>: Last year’s perfect season was ruined when they ran into Mater Dei in the semifinals. There’s no assurance they’ll get back with the losses of their top two running backs, a top receiver and some big-time defenders, though Centennial does return its two main quarterbacks and players like defensive end Korey Foreman and wider receiver, Gary Bryant Jr, (pictured)</p> <p><em>Photo: Gerard Martinez/247Sports</em></p> <p> </p>

<p><strong>Location: </strong>Irmo, S.C.<br /> <strong>18-19 record: </strong>13-0<br /> <strong>Final Super 25 Rank: </strong>9<br /> <strong>Why them</strong>: After an undefeated season and returning quarterback Tyler Olenchuk (pictured) and lead running back Ron Hoff, it seems almost unconscionable to leave Dutch Fork off the Super 25, but they couldn’t quite get on the Way-Too-Early rankings with just two three-star or better players.</p> <p><em>Photo: Jeff Blake/USA TODAY Sports</em></p>

<p><strong>Location: </strong>Austin, Texas<br /> <strong>18-19 record: </strong>13-2<br /> <strong>Final Super 25 Rank: </strong>Unranked<br /> <strong>Why them:</strong> Returning quarterback Hudson Card (pictured), who had 59 total touchdowns last year, gives the Cavaliers an edge, but he’s their only nationally-ranked player remaining, and he no longer has Chosen 25 wide receiver Garrett Wilson. You don’t have to squint to see a path for Lake Travis contention, but they don’t look quite as good on-paper as some other top Texas teams.</p> <p><em>Photo: Eric Spille</em></p>

<p><strong>Location: </strong>Hoover, Ala.<br /> <strong>2018-19 record: </strong>9-4<br /> <strong>Final Super 25 Rank: </strong>Unranked<br /> <strong>Why them</strong>: Hoover is coming off a semifinals appearance and has a four-star quarterback in Robby Ashford (pictured) and three-star running back Dylan Pauley, but the team is losing key pieces including Chosen 25 wide receiver George Pickens and one of the <a href="https://usatodayhss.com/2018/2018-19-american-family-insurance-all-usa-football-offense-second-team">top kickers in the country in Will Reichard</a>.</p> <p><em>Photo: Adam Sparks, Inside Auburn Tigers via Scout.com</em></p>

<p><strong>Location: </strong>Cincinnati, Ohio<br /> <strong>18-19 record: </strong>3-7<br /> <strong>Final Super 25 Rank: </strong>Unranked<br /> <strong>Why them: </strong>With the transfer of Paris Johnson Jr. (pictured), Princeton suddenly has three of the top four 2020 players in Ohio.
