– Unlike the SEC Preseason Team Rankings – based on how good the teams are – these are all based on predicted finishes. For the East, who has to face Alabama from the West? (Tennessee and South Carolina). Who has to deal with LSU? (Florida and Vanderbilt), and who gets the break of facing Arkansas (Kentucky and Missouri) and Ole Miss (Vanderbilt and Missouri)?
– Florida vs. Georgia in Jacksonville on November 2nd. There’s your SEC East title game. All things considered, neither team has that bad a schedule, with the winner possibly good enough to finish 11-1 on the way to the SEC Championship.
– Before getting too grouchy about any of this, remember, it’s the SEC. Almost anyone can beat anyone on the right day – Alabama was the only team to finish the year with fewer than three losses. Put South Carolina in the ACC Coastal, Pac-12 South or the Big Ten West, and it’s probably the favorite to win.

– Unlike the SEC Preseason Team Rankings – based on how good the teams are – these are all based on predicted finishes. For the West, it’s about who has to play Georgia from the East (Auburn and Texas A&M) and who has to face Florida (LSU and Auburn). So give Auburn a bit of a break – it has to deal with the rest of the SEC West, too.
– Just like it is for the SEC East, remember, it’s the SEC – anyone can rise up and win any game. And if you’re Texas A&M, you can be one of the ten best teams in college football and still potentially finish with five losses.
– 11 SEC teams went bowling last season with five of them coming from the West. With Missouri not eligible this year for the postseason, in terms of the bowl pecking order, it’s really, really important for Arkansas and Ole Miss – the two West teams who didn’t go bowling last year – to clean up in non-conference play..
