– Unlike the Mountain West Preseason Team Rankings – based on how good the teams are – these are all based on predicted finishes. A lot has to do with interdivisional play – who plays San Diego State and Fresno State from the West, and who gets San Jose State? Of course, home games are a big part of the equation, too.
– Boise State catches a massive break by missing both San Diego State and Fresno State. Six of the eight games against league teams didn’t go bowling last season. Utah State has to go to both SDSU and FSU.
– Watch out for the Wyoming at Air Force game at the end of the regular season to be a big deal for bowl eligibility. Also expect the Colorado State at New Mexico game on October 12th to be a bowl elimination moment for the loser.

– Unlike the Mountain West Preseason Team Rankings – based on how good the teams are – these are all based on predicted finishes. The season should come down to the Fresno State game at San Diego State on November 16th … maybe. The Bulldogs have it relatively easy outside of the showdown in San Diego, and the Aztecs have a few interesting road games.
– Hawaii will be better than the predicted final record, but the schedule is absolutely brutal. It’ll take a few wins over Pac-12 teams – and a few giant home upsets – to come close to bowl eligibility. The same goes for San Jose State – another improved team with a too-tough slate.
– Nevada and Utah State at the end of the regular season should be for more than just the Fremont Cannon, with the winner possibly – and likely – becoming bowl eligible.
