– Unlike the MAC Preseason Team Rankings – based on how good the teams are – these are all about trying to predict where everyone will finish. The East isn’t as far behind the West as it’s been in recent seasons, but it’s still a big deal to miss Toledo – Akron, Miami and Ohio don’t play the Rockets. Not playing Northern Illinois matters – Bowling Green, Buffalo and Kent State won’t have to deal with the defending champs.
– Ohio going to Buffalo on October 5th is one of the biggest keys to the East season – maybe. The Bobcats could lose and still be fine. It’ll be a scramble by the other four teams to rise up and make some noise in the race, with Miami hosting UB on September 28th, but having to go to Ohio in early November.
– Three East teams were bowl eligible, but only two went to a post-season game. Buffalo and Ohio went bowling, but Miami didn’t get the call at 6-6. Expect those three to be the bowl eligible East teams again.

– Unlike the MAC Preseason Team Rankings – based on how good the teams are – these are all based on predicted finishes. Who from the West doesn’t have to play Ohio from the East? Central Michigan and Toledo catch that break, and Ball State and Northern Illinois miss Buffalo.
– It’s still the stronger and deeper of the two divisions, with Northern Illinois, Toledo and Western Michigan the three teams deepest in the division race. NIU has to go to Toledo, but hosts Western Michigan. WMU has to go to Toledo, too.
– Four teams went bowling last season from the West, and the same four – Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois, Toledo and Western Michigan – will be the ones to get the extra game this time around, too.
