– Unlike the Big Ten Preseason Team Rankings, these are all based on predicted finishes. Where are the games against the stars of the Big Ten East, and when do they come? Who has to face Wisconsin and Iowa from the West, and who catches a bit more of a break?
– Ohio State plays Michigan in Ann Arbor. Michigan State has to go on the road to deal with the Buckeyes, Wolverines and Badgers. Penn State gets Michigan at home, but has to go on the road to deal with Michigan State and Ohio State. If the home team whiffs on any of those games, the Big Ten landscape will be vastly different.
– Once again, expect the Indiana-Purdue game to be a bowl-game-or-bust moment. Maryland and Rutgers should each be a lot stronger, but neither one will make a whole lot of noise in the loaded division.

– The schedules are what the rankings are about, unlike the Big Ten Preseason Team Rankings, which are based on how good the teams are.
If you thought last season in the West was wacky, good luck with this year’s version. Wisconsin might have a slew of issues, but it also gets several key games at home. Unfortunately, it also plays Michigan and goes to Michigan State. Nebraska has just about all of its biggest games at home – don’t be shocked if it takes down Ohio State … but we’re not ready to call that just yet.
– Defending West champ Northwestern goes on the road to deal with Wisconsin and Nebraska in between home games against Michigan State and Ohio State. Minnesota and Iowa will be interesting factors, but the Gophers have the easier run with no Ohio State, Michigan or Michigan State on the schedule.
– Illinois might be a whole lot closer to bowl eligibility than many will predict, and Purdue will fight through a tough slate to get to a bowl – it’ll just take a full season to do it … again.
