– Unlike the American Athletic Preseason Team Rankings – based on how good the teams are – these are all based on predicted finishes. The East might be the tougher of the two divisions, but having to deal with Houston and Memphis from the West is a problem. Also, who has to go to Cincinnati, and who gets the Bearcats at home? Who gets the week off before facing USF or Temple?
– Interestingly enough, Navy, Cincinnati, UConn and UCF all get a week off before facing East Carolina. However, the Pirates are going to get better as the season goes on. Navy has four off weeks before games.
– UConn doesn’t catch too many breaks in the schedule, UCF has a slew of tough battles, and Cincinnati has the biggest fights with road games at Houston, USF and Memphis to go along with the home date against UCF.

– Unlike the American Athletic Preseason Team Rankings – based on how good the teams are – these are all based on predicted finishes. In the West, who misses UCF? Memphis, Navy and SMU, by the way. Who misses Cincinnati and USF? That’s the difference between getting bowl eligible with ease and having to battle for it.
– Houston gets Cincinnati and Memphis at home, but it has to go to UCF in what should be be the battle of the American Athletic season. Memphis is going to be terrific, but it has to deal with Houston and USF at home in back-to-back weeks in November before closing out with a battle against Cincinnati from the East.
– Can Navy, SMU and Tulane all get to bowl eligibility? They’ll beat each other up, but they all have just enough winnable games with their respective offensive styles to come up with strong campaigns.
