ACC Atlantic Predicted Finish

– Unlike the ACC Preseason Team Rankings – based on how good the teams are – these are all based on predicted finishes. For the Atlantic teams, the key is who misses Miami, Virginia and Virginia Tech from the Coastal. Clemson doesn’t have to play any of the three. Louisville has to deal with Virginia and go to Miami in back-to-back games.
– The showdown for the Atlantic should have something to do with Florida State going to Clemson on October 12th, or Clemson going to NC State on November 9th. Syracuse has given the Tigers the hardest time over the last few seasons, and this year it gets the defending national champions in the Carrier Dome.
– Last season, five of the seven teams were bowl eligible – Florida State and Louisville weren’t. This time around, Wake Forest will need to scramble late, but six of the seven should get to at least six wins.

It’s this simple … who are the poor souls who have to face Clemson from the Atlantic? Georgia Tech and North Carolina. Miami vs. Florida State on November 2nd is one of the other giant interdivisional matchups, as is Pitt’s showdown against Syracuse.
– Last season. no team won more than eight games overall, but six of the seven went bowling. This year, expect four teams to get to six wins, and it might just be a fight for that to happen.
– Pitt, Georgia Tech and Duke will be the three teams on the season-long bubble to get to six wins. The division, though, should come down to the battles between Miami, Virginia and Virginia Tech, with the Hurricanes’ games against the Hokies on October 5th and Cavaliers on October 11th – both at home – the key showdowns.
