The 2019 NFL Scouting Combine concluded on Monday with the defensive backs. The cornerbacks kicked things off to try to impress NFL decision makers before they all left to get ready for a plethora of Pro Days leading up into the draft.
Here are our winners and losers from Monday’s drills.
WINNERS
Greedy Williams | LSU

Williams wasn’t a standout in the on-field drills, and found himself having to restart multiple times, and then called it a day due to cramping.
Nonetheless, if he’s able to clean up his ability as a tackler and shows to give 100 percent more on a consistent basis, the result could end with an All-Pro corner.
Mark Fields | Clemson

Fields caught the attention of others that weren’t familiar with him by running a 4.37 40-yard dash, tying Williams and putting up 18 bench press reps.
Isaiah Johnson | Houston

Kicking things off, Johnson ran an impressive 4.40 40-yard dash. He then posted a 6.81 three-cone drill, 11-foot-1 broad jump and 4.06 short shuttle. Johnson was fluid during the on-field drills to conclude his day.
The former wide receiver’s game is very raw, but he shows great traits with the potential to be a great cornerback at the next level.
Justin Layne | Michigan State

The 6-foot-2 and 192 pound CB was smooth in all of his drills. A riser as of late, Layne could emerge as a Day 2 selection and become a potential starter during his first year as a pro.
LOSERS
Joejuan Williams | Vanderbilt

The former Vanderbilt product ran a rather slow 40-yard dash, clocking in at 4.64 seconds. His on-field drills didn’t seem to be much better, which matched his tape, as he has plenty of things that will need refinement, including his footwork.
If Williams wants to get the second or third round consideration like he’s been getting, then he will have to display a better performance at his Pro Day.
Blace Brown | Troy

The former Troy product clocked in at a poor 4.75 40-yard dash, and also posted disappointing times in the short shuttle (4.22) and three-cone drill (7.33).
At best, Brown looks nothing better than a late Day 3 developmental prospect.
