Mock drafts are flying around fast and furious, but most projections you’ll find only go one round, and they often steer clear of predicting any draft-day trades.
But the NFL draft is about far more than the first 32 selections, as teams continue to find impact players far beyond the first round. And if you’re a fan of the New Orleans Saints, Dallas Cowboys or Chicago Bears, one-round mock drafts don’t give you much to talk about.
It’s also unfathomable to have a first round without some big trades, so it only makes sense to project some deals that could potentially go down on in the early going of draft weekend.
With those things in mind, here’s an updated look at how the first four rounds of the 2019 NFL draft could shake out:
1. Arizona Cardinals | Quinnen Williams | DL | Alabama
If the Cardinals aren’t able to sell this pick for a king’s ransom, they’ll be picking between two elite defenders. So, what breaks the tie? How about the fact that Arizona already has one of the league’s best edge rushers in Chandler Jones, who would benefit even further from a dominant interior presence like Williams.
2. San Francisco 49ers | Nick Bosa | EDGE | Ohio State
Any scenario that leaves Bosa on the board for the 49ers would be a dream scenario for general manager John Lynch and his crew. Getting the top overall prospect in the draft any later than the No. 1 overall pick is a steal, and it just happens to fill San Francisco’s biggest need.
3. New York Jets | Josh Allen | EDGE | Kentucky
The Jets either need to get someone to get after the quarterback with this pick, or someone to protect their own. In this scenario, the better value is on defense, where new coach Adam Gase lands a versatile, productive edge defender in Allen.
4. Jacksonville Jaguars (from OAK)* | Dwayne Haskins | QB | Ohio State
The Blake Bortles experiment is over, and the Jags desperately need to make a bold move to secure a new franchise quarterback. They’re likely to find a willing trade partner in the Raiders, who keep adding premium picks by getting at least a second-round pick and a third-round pick from Jacksonville in this deal.
5. Denver Broncos (from TB)* | Drew Lock | QB | Missouri
Sorry, but I’m not buying the addition of a 34-year-old Joe Flacco as evidence the Broncos won’t be targeting a quarterback of the future early in this draft. Lock has all the physical tools to be a franchise passer, and John Elway knows he needs a long-term solution at the game’s most important position. In return for his picks in the second and third rounds this year, and likely another Day 2 pick next year, Elway gets his man.
6. Miami Dolphins (from NYG)* | Kyler Murray | QB | Oklahoma
If you want a top quarterback prospect, you’re gonna have to trade up to get him. After a pair of teams do just that in this scenario, the Dolphins can’t afford to wait any longer, pulling the trigger and landing arguably the most dynamic talent in this entire class. Giving up at least their Day 2 picks will be worth it if Murray can replicate the success that won him the Heisman Trophy.
7. Oakland Raiders (from JAX)* | Devin White | LB | LSU
After moving back a few spots and adding even more picks, Mike Mayock and Jon Gruden still land a player that could have gotten strong consideration at their original slot. White is exactly the kind of difference-maker the Raiders desperately need at the heart of their defense.
8. Detroit Lions | Greedy Williams | CB | LSU
There are needs at every level for this defense, but finding a stud corner to line up opposite Darius Slay should be high on the list. While Williams is still learning how to maximize his physical skills, he has the height, length and athleticism to be a star at the next level.
9. Atlanta Falcons (from BUF)* | Ed Oliver | DL | Houston
Trading into the top 10 for an interior defensive lineman isn’t common, but neither is Oliver. A versatile playmaker with rare explosiveness and athleticism for his size, Oliver was once projected as a lock to be this year’s top overall pick. In this scenario, the Falcons deal their second-round pick and fourth-round pick to make sure the division-rival Bucs can’t land him at No. 10.
10. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (from DEN)* | Jonah Williams | OT | Alabama
After moving back and adding additional picks, the Bucs barely miss out on Oliver, but end up with another talented prospect at a bigger position of need. Williams would be an immediate upgrade over right tackle Demar Dotson, who isn’t getting any younger and has struggled to stay healthy. Williams could also be the long-term solution at left tackle if Donovan Smith doesn’t get an extension.

11. Cincinnati Bengals | T.J. Hockenson | TE | Iowa
If the Bengals miss out on this year’s top quarterbacks and Devin White, they’ll be faced with a decision: Take the next-best passer, or help the one they already have by giving him another dynamic weapon. If new coach Zac Taylor is going to get the best out of Andy Dalton, having a complete tight end like Hockenson would be a huge help.
12. Washington Redskins (from GB)* | Daniel Jones | QB | Duke
It’s hard to imagine Alex Smith being ready to play at any point in 2019, and there’s nothing currently on the roster that screams starting-caliber NFL quarterback. Don’t be surprised if Washington sees the early run on quarterbacks and makes somewhat of a panic move, even just a few slots in return for a third-round pick, to secure a raw but promising passer like Jones to build around.
13. New York Giants (from MIA)* | Cody Ford | OT | Oklahoma
I get the feeling old-school general manager Dave Gettleman would prefer to ride with Eli Manning for the time being, and opt to fortify the trenches with his early picks in this draft. After moving back and getting some extra picks, the Giants still get Ford, who would be an immediate upgrade at either tackle spot.
14. Buffalo Bills (from ATL)* | D.K. Metcalf | WR | Ole Miss
Another team that moves back and still lands the player they likely would have picked at their original spot, the Bills get a huge win with this scenario. Adding extra picks and still getting the most complete pass-catcher in this draft would be a great start to a draft that has to be about building around Josh Allen.
15. Houston Texans (from WAS via GB)* | Jawaan Taylor | OT | Florida
Deshaun Watson is one of the league’s best young quarterbacks, but the Texans desperately need to improve his protection. Even in a tackle class that’s extremely deep at the top, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Texans part with one of their two second-round picks (and likely another Day 2 pick next year) to jump up and get the one they want most. Taylor is a fast-rising name who could easily be taken much earlier.
16. Carolina Panthers | Clelin Ferrell | EDGE | Clemson
Julius Peppers was a rare talent, and while the Panthers won’t find that kind of player at No. 16 in this draft, they should still target a talented edge rusher to fill the void left behind by the future Hall of Famer. Ferrell is a well-rounded prospect who can start immediately.
17. Cleveland Browns | Byron Murphy | CB | Washington
There are a few different directions the Browns could go here, but finding a young corner to pair with rookie Pro Bowler Denzel Ward should be one of their top priorities. While Murphy doesn’t have the height or length of other top corners in this class, his combination of ball skills and instincts will make him an instant success at the next level.
18. Minnesota Vikings | Dalton Risner | OT | Kansas State
This team has some dangerous offensive weapons and a capable quarterback, but the protection has to improve across the board. Risner’s experience and polish should make him an instant-impact player at the next level, and his versatility would make him an upgrade at multiple spots.
19. Tennessee Titans | Rashan Gary | DL | Michigan
Jurrell Casey is still one of the NFL’s better interior defenders, but he needs some young talent to help him out. Injuries, inconsistency and playing out of position kept Gary from living up to his lofty expectations in college, but his athleticism still gives him a ridiculously high ceiling. He could end up being a huge bargain this late.
20. Pittsburgh Steelers | Montez Sweat | EDGE | Mississippi State
Corner is the bigger need, but the Steelers have been reaching to fill needs in the first round way too often in recent years. The better move here is to add a massive, physical pass rusher like Sweat, who followed up a solid career against SEC competition with a strong outing at the Senior Bowl.

21. Seattle Seahawks | Greg Little | OT | Ole Miss
Just because Russell Wilson can scramble for his life and still make incredible plays doesn’t mean the Seahawks should keep making him do it. In a tackle class this deep, Seattle should have every intention of spending their first-round pick on a franchise left tackle who can help keep Russell from fleeing the pocket to bail his offense out every other snap.
22. Baltimore Ravens | N’Keal Harry | WR | Arizona State
The Lamar Jackson era has officially begun in Baltimore, and the Ravens need to build a better supporting cast around their new franchise quarterback. First on the list? Finding him a true No. 1 receiver, with the big frame and complete skill set Harry brings to the table.
23. Green Bay Packers (from HOU)* | Brian Burns | EDGE | Florida State
After moving back twice and picking up extra selections, the Packers still end up with a fantastic scenario where they land a top prospect at one of their biggest needs. Burns could use a few more pounds of solid bulk on his massive frame, but his combination of athleticism, explosiveness and technique should make him an instant success.
24. Oakland Raiders (from CHI) | Jachai Polite | EDGE | Florida
The Raiders have three first-round picks to play with, and one of them must be used on a pass-rushing prospect who can help replace what they lost in Khalil Mack. It’s a lofty ceiling, but Polite has the explosiveness and knack for forcing fumbles to be a difference-maker sooner than later.
25. Philadelphia Eagles | Josh Jacobs | RB | Alabama
There are bigger needs on both sides of the ball, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Doug Pederson couldn’t resist adding a dynamic playmaker like Jacobs to his offense. Despite being a career backup for the Crimson Tide, Jacobs is absolutely deserving of being the first running back off the board in this draft.
26. Indianapolis Colts | Jerry Tillery | DL | Notre Dame
General manager Chris Ballard is building one of the best young teams in the league, but there are still a few glaring holes to fill. One of them is along the interior of the defensive line, where the Colts could use a versatile, disruptive force like Tillery, who can line up in multiple spots.
27. Oakland Raiders (from DAL) | Kelvin Harmon | WR | North Carolina State
Jon Gruden traded away Amari Cooper for this pick, so spending it on his replacement would make plenty of sense. The Raiders don’t have a receiver currently on the roster who can boast Harmon’s big frame and complete skill set.
28. Los Angeles Chargers | Christian Wilkins | DL | Clemson
The Bolts have one of the league’s best edge-rushing tandems in Melvin Ingram and Joey Bosa, but free agency could end up leaving them with a gaping hole along the interior of their defensive line. A rare athlete for his size, the explosive and disruptive Wilkins would be a fantastic remedy.
29. Kansas City Chiefs | Deionte Thompson | S | Alabama
This entire secondary needs work, and the Chiefs’ first draft pick should be used to address it. In this scenario, the better value is at safety rather than corner, where Kansas City lands the latest rangy, athletic playmaker to come out of Tuscaloosa.
30. Green Bay Packers (from NO) | Noah Fant | TE | Iowa
After filling one of their biggest needs on defense earlier in the first round, the Packers use their additional selection to get Aaron Rodgers a dynamic weapon. Fant has the size and athleticism to create serious matchup problems for opposing defenses, making him the perfect successor to Jimmy Graham.
31. Oakland Raiders (from LAR)* | Deandre Baker | CB | Georgia
Another first-round pick for the Raiders? Don’t be shocked, as the Raiders have added more ammo to move around in this scenario. With a need at corner and a fantastic value like Baker still on the board, the Raiders part with an extra third-round pick they just acquired to jump ahead of other corner-needy teams to snatch him up.
32. New England Patriots | Nasir Adderley | S | Delaware
Devin McCourty and Patrick Chung are both 31 years old, so finding a young safety to groom behind them should be a priority for the defending champs in this draft. Adderley is still fairly raw, but his physical tools and versatility would make him a wise investment at the end of the first round.
