2019 NFL mock draft: Colts select S Johnathan Abram

The Indianapolis Colts are less than a week away from entering the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft where they will look to continue building on the foundation of the roster.

There are several prospects the Indianapolis Colts could target with their first-round pick. They could even trade back out of the first round if none of the options are truly what they want.

In Daniel Jeremiah’s latest mock draft for NFL.com, the Colts made a selection in Mississippi State safety Jonathan Abram.

Selfishly, I would just love to see him play opposite Malik Hooker in Indy. Abram could play in the box and allow Hooker to make plays over the top.

The Colts seem to like Abram throughout the pre-draft process. He is a nice fit for their scheme as a tone-setter working in two-deep coverage while also having the ability to make plays near the line of scrimmage.

However, Abram will need to show he can improve in the ball skills area, which is among the top requirements for the Colts when evaluating defensive backs.

Whether the Colts will use their first-round pick on Abram remains to be seen. Some have him pegged as a first-round talent while others see him as a mid-Day 2 prospect.

Finding a running mate for Malik Hooker is necessary in this year’s draft, and the Colts pay up to do so in Jeremiah’s latest mock draft.
