2019 NFL mock draft: Colts select DT Jerry Tillery

The Indianapolis Colts are less than a week away from making their first-round selection in the 2019 NFL Draft. There will be so many options to choose from that it can be difficult to know exactly what avenue they may explore.

That is why analysts are ramping up the mock drafts and projections. Luke Easterling of Draft Wire ran a first-round mock draft, which saw the Colts adding a disruptive presence to the interior defensive line.

26. Indianapolis Colts | Jerry Tillery | DL | Notre Dame

This roster is one of the most promising in the NFL, but there are still a handful of glaring needs that should be addressed in this draft. In this scenario, the best value comes along the defensive line, where the Colts could use a versatile, disruptive force like Tillery. His massive frame and ability to line up anywhere on the line and make plays in the backfield should make him an instant success at the next level.

Tillery wins with athleticism and length from the interior. His inconsistencies and motor will be concerns that could drop him out of the first round. However, he still makes a ton of sense at No. 26 overall.

The Colts have a need to add some premier depth to the interior defensive line. If they can figure out a way to tap into Tillery’s motor to get him playing consistently, he has a chance to be a Pro-Bowl caliber pass rusher.

It will be interesting to see how the Colts go about selecting their first-round pick — if they make a selection — and Tillery should be considered among the top options.
