2019 NFL mock draft: Colts double down on WR position

The Indianapolis Colts have a handful of needs to address this offseason including the wide receiver position, which many pundits have them targeting the 2019 NFL Draft.

With four picks in the first three rounds, the Colts will have ample opportunity to add some depth to the wide receiver position, which is what they did with their two second-round picks in Draft Wire’s latest mock draft.

Here’s a look at how the Colts went in the mock draft:

26.  Montez Sweat | EDGE | Mississippi State

“Another defense that needs help at every level, the Colts will be looking to maximize value at any number of positions here. In this scenario, their best option is grabbing one of the talented edge rushers still on the board, and a complete prospect like Sweat would be a fantastic fit.” – Luke Easterling.

Sweat had a strong Senior Bowl that has pushed his stock up to the middle of the first round. Should he fall to the Colts, he would be a perfect fit off the edge.

34. A.J. Brown | WR | Mississippi

This is where the Colts first address the wide receiver position. With great size and solid ball skills, Brown can work both on the outside and in the slot. He averaged 15.5 yards per reception in 2018 for the Rebels, and his ability to make defenders miss after the catch is certainly intriguing.

59. Hakeem Butler | WR | Iowa State

Doubling down on the wide receiver position for the second pick in a row, the Colts shouldn’t have any problem getting production from the room if this were to happen. Butler is a massive wide receiver that excels after the catch. He would certainly be a red zone target, especially on fades.

89. Khalen Saunders | DT | Western Illinois

Saunders was able to win with pure size and physicality in college, but he will need to develop more pass rushing moves and a plan to get into the backfield. Even at his size (6’0, 318), Saunders has great athleticism that could see him work as a one-technique or a three-technique on early downs.
