2019 NFL free agency: what re-signing safety Kenny Vaccaro means for Titans

It’s no secret safety Kenny Vaccaro more than just effectively stepped up in the place of an injured Johnathan Cyprien in 2018.

On Monday, Vaccaro and the Titans agreed to terms on a four-year, $26 million deal with $11.5 million guaranteed.

Between he and fellow safety Kevin Byard, the Titans may have one of the best defensive tandems in the league next season. Byard works well in space, while Vaccaro is effective in the box.

The only real concern with Vaccaro is his rough and risky style of play that’s found him sidelined due to injury in the past. He’s missed eight games over the past three seasons with a slew of injuries ranging from an ankle injury to a dislocated elbow.

Last season, Vaccaro recorded 58 combined tackles, two sacks, four passes defensed and one interception.

The move also frees up more money for the Titans, who save $4.75 million in cap space by releasing Cyprien.

General manager Jon Robinson will make a number of moves this offseason, including some that may not ultimately pan out, but this won’t be one he regrets.
