2019 NFL free agency: Titans have informed safety Johnathan Cyprien of his release

Safety Johnathan Cyprien was effective enough for the Tennessee Titans, but Kenny Vaccaro proved more competent in his absence.

On Monday afternoon, the Titans made plans to re-sign Vaccaro to a 4-year deal, and informed Cyprien that he would be released.

The deal comes as no surprise to Cyprien, who saw several different ways the situation could ultimately play out earlier in the offseason.

“In all reality, there’s a couple of different scenarios that can happen,” Cyprien said in a report by the team’s Jim Wyatt. “It could be we’re both on the team together, and I would be more than happy to do that, no problem. Or it could be just myself, or it could just be Kenny. That’s just the reality of this business. That’s not for me to decide, of course.”

Cyprien, who tore his ACL before last season, was originally picked up by Tennessee in free agency before the to the 2017 season after spending four seasons in Jacksonville.

Cyprien started 10 games for the Tennessee in 2017 and finished out with 65 tackles and one sack.
