2019 NFL Free Agency: Jets host OT Andre Smith, CB Morris Claiborne visits Cardinals

The Jets continued their search for offensive line depth on Monday, hosting former Cincinnati Bengals OT Andre Smith on Monday for a visit according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

In addition to Smith visiting the Jets, Morris Claiborne was hosted by the Arizona Cardinals on Monday. The Jets did not express interest in retaining Claiborne earlier in the offseason, but that could change considering the lack of a No. 2 cornerback on the roster and the state of the free agent market at the position.

On the other side of the ball, Smith would provide immediate depth at the tackle in the event of an injury. He is a former first-round pick in the 2009 NFL draft and until 2015, was a mainstay at right tackle for the Bengals. 2018 served as Smith’s third stint with Cincinnati. He opened the season with the Cardinals but was released in November after making eight starts at right tackle.

Smith would give the Jets an additional veteran presence on the line. He would also serve as a viable backup to either Kelvin Beachum or Brandon Shell, both of whom have succumbed to injuries multiple times in recent years.
