2019 NFL Draft: Will Titans GM Jon Robinson trade up?

If there’s anything Tennessee Titans fans have learned about team general manager Jon Robinson since he assumed his position in 2016, it’s that he likes to do his fair share of wheeling and dealing in the draft.

In 2016, Robinson traded the No. 1 pick for a slew of picks from the Rams. By his second year at GM,  Robinson had made 10 trades involving players or picks in his first two years as GM, including three moves on the last da day of the 2017 NFL draft.

In 2018, Robinson made more moves.

To acquire linebacker Rashaan Evans, Robinson traded up to the No. 22 pick in the first round, while giving up No. 125 in the fourth round, for pick No. 215 in the sixth.

In order to secure edge rusher Harold Landry at No. 41, Robinson traded away the Titans’ third-round pick, as they were originally scheduled to pick at No. 57.

He continued this into the fifth round, where he moved up once more to select safety Dane Cruikshank. Cruikshank was taken at No. 152 – trading away picks 162 and 215.

Will the 2019 NFL Draft be any different for him than past years?

Robinson was asked a question similar to this on Wednesday.

“Too early. I don’t know,” he said. “You take every situation and you examine it and you try to do what’s best for the team. There’s time where last year we moved up a couple of times and got a couple of guys, and there’s times where we moved back, too. It’s really what’s the cost from a picks standpoint; what’s that going to cost you to move up or back in the draft; but also being mindful of the pool of players you’re trying to add.”

As of now, this is what the Titans’ 2019 NFL Draft order looks like:

1st round (19th overall)

2nd round (51st overall)

3rd round (83rd overall)

4th round (115th overall)

5th round (147th overall)

6th round (no pick)- (traded to Baltimore)

7th round (211th overall)

It will be interesting to see if Robinson and the Titans stick with that lineup when the team is set to make its first selection on Apr. 25.
