2019 NFL Draft: Titans trade up, select Iowa DB Amani Hooker

The Tennessee Titans kicked off Day 3 of the 2019 NFL Draft by trading up to pick No. 116 in the fourth round.

The team selected Iowa defensive back Amani Hooker to add depth at safety behind Kevin Byard and Kenny Vaccaro.

As a freshman, played in all 13 games making four tackles and seeing the majority of his playing time on special teams. He broke into the into the defensive lineup as a sophomore, playing at both free and strong safety, recording 56 tackles, two interceptions and four pass breakups in 10 games.

During 2018 – his last with the Hawkeyes – coaches created a special hybrid position between safety and linebacker for Hooker. He earned the Big Ten Defensive Back of the Year award after amassing 65 tackles, 3.5 for loss, four interceptions, seven pass breakups and a safety over 13 starts.

The 5-foot-11, 210-pounder was a finalist for Minnesota’s Mr. Football Award in 2015, and was also a three-time all-state pick for his play as a defensive back and on offense.

With the trade, the Titans send picks No. 121 and No. 157 to the New York Jets in exchange for picks No. 116 and and No. 168.
