2019 NFL Draft: Titans select TE T.J. Hockenson in Doug Farrar’s latest mock draft

A flurry of wise moves by Tennessee Titans general manager Jon Robinson in 2019 has given the team more freedom in its choices for a first-round selection in the 2019 NFL Draft.

While the idea of taking a tight end early on once seemed outlandish to some analysts, the thought has now become much more reasonable.

In his latest mock draft, Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar has the Titans selecting Iowa Hockeyes tight end T.J. Hockenson with the No. 19 overall pick.

The reasoning behind that?

The Titans need a high-level tight end to really get the chains moving on offense, and such a point has been showcased by veteran Delanie Walker when he’s healthy.

“Stealing Adam Humphries away from the Patriots in free agency looks like a sneaky-good move for the Titans, but this is a team whose offense works best with a top-shelf tight end,” he wrote.

“That was the case when Delanie Walker was healthy, and now, there’s a need for a future plan. Like Fant, Hockenson didn’t impress statistically with the Hawkeyes, but his tape shows that he’s the best combination of old-school blocking and new-school receiving at his position in this class.”

Between Hockenson and fellow Hawkeyes tight end Noah Fant, the Titans have two strong options available to choose between if they decide to go with a player at the position right off the bat.
