2019 NFL Draft: Titans’ last No. 19 overall pick was a Pro Bowler

With just over two months to go until the 2019 NFL Draft, the Tennessee Titans have some time to contemplate what decision they’ll make with the No. 19 overall pick.

It’s been over a decade since the Titans held this particular selection, and they did well with it.

The Titans selected safety Michael Griffin in 2007 at No. 19 overall, a player who would go on to impact the Titans’ defense for years and make the Pro Bowl twice (2008,2010).

Griffin spent the 2007-2015 seasons in Nashville, before a pair of short stints with the Minnesota Vikings and the Carolina Panthers in 2016. Griffin signed a one-day contract with the Titans on May 6, 2018 so he could retire with the team that originally gave him a chance.

“I gave it all I had on the football field for whoever I was playing for, but at the same time I always still felt like I was still a Titan,” he said. “In my head, where it all started is where I wanted it all to end.”

As a Titan, Griffin recorded 763 tackles, seven sacks, 60 passes defensed and 25 interceptions. He was also named to the PFWA’s All-Rookie team in 2007.

While the Titans are not projected to select a safety in the first round of this year’s draft, they will hope to match or exceed the level of success they had the last time they chose with the 19th selection.
