2019 NFL Draft: Titans GM Jon Robinson pleased with depth at DL and EDGE

With the 2019 NFL Draft now just days away, there’s plenty of speculation as to which position the Tennessee Titans will address in the first round.

The team has the No. 19 overall pick, and many have projected them to select a defensive lineman or an edge rusher first, though predictions have ranged from tight end to wide receiver to offensive lineman.

General manager Jon Robinson said he liked what he saw of the group of defensive linemen and edge rushers in this year’s draft.

“It is a pretty deep crop there, at that position group specifically,” he said.

Whether or not the Titans choose to take a player at one of those positions is a matter of circumstance, though. If the team can still acquire an athlete to help the team at a later point in the draft, they may opt to do that and place their initial pick elsewhere.

“How quickly they come off the board and how long they last, I guess the beauty is in the eye of the beholder there. If you are looking at one of those players versus a player at another position, you have to make that determination – well, if I pass on this player and I don’t have a pick until the next round, am I going to be able to weather the storm of 30, 35 picks, whatever it might be? It is a good group and it’s a fun group to watch.”

Given the unpredictability of Robinson in past years, it will be curious to see which player he selects first — and where he picks.
