The Tennessee Titans ended the 2018 season ranked 29th in total passing yards, with Corey Davis being the only receiver on the team to surpass 800 yards.
With the 51st pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Titans addressed this issue with the selection of A.J. Brown.
Brown, who has been considered by many as one of the top receivers in the draft, will be able to come into Nashville and find success from day one. He’s a tough slot receiver who went for over 1,200 receiving yards his last two seasons in college.
In his three seasons at Ole Miss, Brown totaled nearly 3,000 receiving yards and 19 touchdowns. Those are solid numbers for any receiver coming out of college — let alone one going up against gritty SEC defenses day in and day out.
Taking the 6-foot, 226-pounder in the second round solidifies the offense in more ways than one.
It will give quarterback Marcus Mariota an extra versatile threat, a piece that this offense has been missing for a few years.
It will also take some pressure off of Corey Davis, who had nearly double the receiving yards than the next closest receiver on the Titans roster. Davis has been consistently improving since he entered the league in 2017, and that isn’t going to change in 2019.
After the addition of Brown to this receiving corps, the only direction this group can go is upward.
With a healthy Mariota heading into the 2019 season looking to prove himself on the final year of his rookie contract, the offense will look to find rhythm early on in September.
