2019 NFL Draft: Titans could still add another quarterback

The Tennessee Titans entered the offseason with a problem at the quarterback position, given Marcus Mariota’s frequent injuries and Blaine Gabbert’s inconsistent performances.

The team has made moves to address that, bringing former Miami Dolphins signal-caller Ryan Tannehill aboard, and signing former AAF quarterback Logan Woodside.

Tannehill will serve as an overqualified backup, and an essential insurance policy for Mariota. Woodside, who is no stranger to the team, is expected to play third-string and bring some extra depth at the position.

But what about the addition of a fourth name? This notion hasn’t been ruled out.

According to team reporter Jim Wyatt, it’s totally plausible the Titans could select another quarterback in the later rounds of the 2019 NFL Draft.

“Sure you saw where the team signed quarterback Logan Woodside this week, and he makes 3 behind Marcus Mariota and Ryan Tannehill,” he wrote in his latest mailbag post. “I saw Ta’amu play this year, and he is an intriguing guy. I’ll just say this: I don’t think the addition of Woodside guarantees another guy won’t be added.”

If the Titans do select a quarterback, it will be interesting to see where they go with the pick. Vanderbilt’s Kyle Shurmur, Mississippi State’s Nick Fitzgerald and Penn State’s Trace McSorley are just a few players expected to be available late in the draft.
