2019 NFL Draft: Titans could select Clemson DL Dexter Lawrence in the first round

A Clemson defensive lineman has been mocked to the Tennessee Titans not once, but twice now.

When NFL Media analyst Charley Casserly released his mock draft on Tuesday, he had the Titans taking Clemson defensive tackle, Dexter Lawrence.

If the Titans opt to tend to the offense with the No. 19 overall pick instead, Casserly predicts they’ll select a wide receiver that can give them some more speed.

“They could use an interior O-lineman, but the top players at the position are already off the board,” he wrote. “The decision comes down to a speedy WR vs. a DT, and they go with the latter.”

The junior has been a highly effective member of the Tigers’ defense, recording 133 combined tackles, 11 sacks, one forced fumble and four passes defensed over three seasons with the team.

Just a day before, draft analyst Mel Kiper projected fellow Clemson defensive tackle Christian Wilkins would be taken instead.

“Tennessee got very little last season from free-agent addition Bennie Logan, and the defense could upgrade on either side of elite nose tackle Jurrell Casey in its 3-4,” he wrote. “Wilkins (6-4, 312) could play tackle in a 4-3 or end in a 3-4. The Titans will likely keep a close eye on edge-rushing outside linebackers here, but the value with Wilkins on my board is too good to pass up.”

Regardless of how the team chooses to do it, it’s likely the Titans will add a new member to their defense early on in the 2019 NFL Draft.
