2019 NFL draft: Texans select OT Tytus Howard No. 23 overall

The Texans selected Alabama State offensive tackle Tytus Howard with the No. 23 overall selection of the 2019 NFL draft.

The pick came as a bit of a surprise with the likes of Jawaan Taylor, Cody Ford and Dalton Risner still on the board. Houston elected to go with a small-school standout to attempt to build a formidable line to keep quarterback Deshaun Watson upright.

Howard is a gifted athlete with quickness, movement skills and fluidity as both a run and pass blocker. While he will be dinged for level of competition, and lack of experience at the position, he’s much more than a developmental player and should have no problem starting at the right tackle position with the ability to move to the left side with a few years under his belt.
