NFL drafts are like kids, tweets and vacation photos – everyone loves their own even if they’re bad, ugly and boring.
In terms of value, talent, opportunities, who can play, and who’s a risk, who did the best and worst jobs with what they had to work with?
Remember, the goal here is to find decent starters for your team for the next few years. No matter what anyone else tries to sell you, the odds of finding a guy who’ll be a good, consistent 3-to-5 year starter for your team after the first 100 picks are shockingly slim – like 10-15% slim.
With all that in mind, welcome to the rankings of the NFL Drafts for all 32 teams, from the college football perspective …
32. Kansas City Chiefs
– The weekend was more about Tyreek Hill than anything the Chiefs were able to do in the draft. The trade for Frank Clark was the real draft pick – giving up a first rounder to Seattle to get him – and everything else after that is about the corner situation with Virginia’s Juan Thornhill (2nd), and South Carolina’s Rashad Fenton (6th) needing to be factors.
– Do the Chiefs take Mecole Hardman if there weren’t the issues with Hill? The Georgia undersized speedster needs to instantly fill the hole. After that, the draft is just a bunch of guys. This isn’t the draft class to put the team over the top.

31. New Orleans Saints
– There’s just not a whole lot here to get fired up about with just one pick before the fourth. The Saints needed a center, and they got one in Texas A&M’s Erik McCoy. Considering Minnesota took NC State’s Garrett Bradbury with the 18th pick, the Saints got their guy on the cheap with the 16th pick in the second.
– Safety wasn’t a must-have position, but Florida’s Chauncey Gardner-Johnson was way too good to fall any further than the early fourth round. Rutgers’ Saquon Hampton was a nice sixth round flier.

30. Chicago Bears
– Khalil Mack is better than every player in this draft. Trading away a first round pick to get him is all that matters when dogging a mediocre haul of five mid-round picks.
– David Montgomery should be an instant starting running back, but the flash isn’t there for the Bear O. Riley Riley is a good possession receiver, but if these two don’t work out, the draft really is all about Mack.
– The Bears need a corner and took two really, really late. If Kansas State’s Duke Shelley or Valdosta State’s Stephen Denmark make the team, it’ll be gravy.

29. San Francisco 49ers
– Yeah, okay, if Arizona wants to give away Nick Bosa, then of course the Niners will take him – social media issues and all. If it’s possible to get a great value pick at the two, they got one. Receivers were a need, and they got two early in South Carolina’s Deebo Samuel in the second and Baylor’s Jalen Hurd in the third. However …
– The team isn’t good enough to take a punter in the fourth. Utah’s Mitch Wishnowsky is going to be a great one, but parts of the last four draft picks had better work out. Overall, there are a few too many things thrown at the wall after the Bosa pick.

28. New York Jets
– The Jets were supposedly doing everything to try trading out of the third overall pick. They got Alabama DT Quinnen Williams – it all worked out for the best. Florida DE Jachai Polite was a top ten pick before an awful offseason of interviews and workouts – he went in the third – and USC’s Chuma Edoga should be a starter from the third.
– Considering there were only six picks, and there was only one before the third round, it’s a good draft. If Williams and Polite are the real deal, the rest of the draft is all gravy.

27. Miami Dolphins
– Forget everything else. Miami got Josh Rosen for absolutely nothing. Best of all, he comes just cheap enough that it’ll be no big deal if the Dolphins are in the mix for Tua Tagovailoa or one of the great quarterback prospects next year. Start there, but …
– The draft class is solid considering there wasn’t a lot to work with – Miami only had one pick before the mid-third. Clemson DT Christian Wilkins was the exact type of leader to take over the defense right away. There are some fantastic college players over the last five picks, but they’re all fliers.

26. Carolina Panthers
– It’s … interesting. Florida State edge rusher Brian Burns with the 16th overall pick is fine, but the Panthers passed up on Mississippi State’s Montez Sweat and Clemson DT Dexter Lawrence went one pick later.
– Ole Miss OT Greg Little was thought of as a possible top 20 overall pick early on in the draft process and is a fine get early in the second round. Getting West Virginia QB Will Grier in the third will be … interesting. There won’t be any shortage of storylines.
– The Panthers blew off the needs in the secondary needs, and didn’t get a gamebreaking receiver in the mid-rounds.

25. Houston Texans
– Ehhhhhhhh, there’s a shot at building things up, but it was a massive reach to grab Alabama State OT Tytus Howard in the first round. He has to be a starter as soon as humanly possible, and Northern Illinois OT Max Scharping has to find a role right away, too.
– There aren’t any real playmakers for the offensive side other than San Diego State TE Kahale Warring. He’s not a finished product yet, but if and when it all comes together, look out. The corner combination of Kentucky’s Lonnie Johnson in the second round and Central Michigan’s Xavier Crawford in the sixth was strong.

24. Atlanta Falcons
– Infrastructure is rarely sexy, but the Falcons were able to load up on the O line and fill some needs.
– They overpaid for Boston College G Chris Lindstrom with the 14th overall pick with FSU DE Brian Burns and Clemson DT Dexter Lawrence on the board, and Washington OT Kaleb McGary was a bit of a reach late in the first round. With no picks in the second and third rounds, the two blockers had better be special.

23. Jacksonville Jaguars
– Why yes, Jacksonville will take Josh Allen with the seventh overall pick. The Kentucky edge rusher was good enough to have gone in the top four, and after the Giants took Daniel Jones, the Jaguars snapped up the star prospect. Throw in the value get of Florida OT Jawaan Taylor in the early second, and it was a great start. And then ..
– That was it. Maybe San Jose State TE Josh Oliver will play a role, but he was a reach. Taking S Quincy Williams from Murray State in the third was ridiculous.

22. Los Angeles Chargers
– It’s a draft class to try to give Phil Rivers another few runs. To do that, the lines needed to be built up. There might not be any superstars, but there are parts of the puzzle. DT Jerry Tillery was a bit of a first round reach, and Sioux Fallas OT Trey Pipkins is an interesting get in the third – they had better be fantastic.
– Easton Stick isn’t exactly the type of quarterback to build around for the next several years. When Rivers is done, is the smallish baller from North Dakota State really okay to step in and produce? It took a fifth round flier to find out.

21. Detroit Lions
– Yeah, the Lions passed on Houston DT Ed Oliver, but Iowa’s TJ Hockenson is an elite tight end who might just be a gamechanger for the Lion offense. They went with attitude on the other side of the ball after that with four straight defensive prospects.
– Penn State CB Amani Oruwariye in the fifth was a joe of a steal – he should’ve gone two rounds earlier. The coaching staff is going to like Clemson DE Austin Bryant from the fourth round. He was the fourth-best guy on the epic Tiger front four, but he’s just fine on his own.

20. Green Bay Packers
– Is Rashan Gary ready to blow up as a pro? Considering his talent, he underwhelmed at Michigan, but he might just grow into a big, big problem for the NFL North for the next several years.
– There weren’t any big-time weapons for Aaron Rodgers to work with, but Texas A&M TE Jace Sternberger is a nice prospect who could fill a need in a little bit of time. Getting Notre Dame RB Dexter Williams in the sixth round – Aaron Jones was a 5th rounder – was terrific.

19. Cleveland Browns
– Considering the Browns didn’t have a first round pick – thanks to the trade for Odell Beckham Jr. – getting LSU CB Greedy Williams in the second round was amazing. After that, it’s an okay draft, but it’s nothing special.
– Check that. Getting Alabama LB Mack Wilson in the fifth was amazing. Going after a kicker – even one as good as Oklahoma’s Austin Seibert – in the fifth is a bit gaudy for a team that still needs parts.

18. Arizona Cardinals
– Either you believe that Kyler Murray is going to be a transcendent top five quarterback talent who’ll be in the NFL MVP hunt on a consistent basis, or the Cardinals totally biffed the No. 1 overall draft pick. No pressure.
– The rest of the draft is fine, but it’s heavy on the guys missing the raw tools. UMass WR Andy Isabella should be a good pro, and Byron Murphy from Washington is a good corner, but considering all the amazing defensive talent there for the taking in the top 15, the draft is all about Murray.

17. Oakland Raiders
– For all the possibilities, and for all the draft picks, and for all of the hype and for all of the hullabaloo, it was okay. Not great. Not amazing. Not game changing. The pick of Clemson DE Clelin Ferrell at the four was fine – he’s going to be great – but he had better be Vontae Mack no matter what considering the Raiders took him over Kentucky edge rusher Josh Allen and Houston DT Ed Oliver.
– Alabama RB Josh Jacobs late in the first round wasn’t Oakland. This was a running back deep draft, and the Raiders passed on the flash of Oklahoma WR Marquise Brown and the upside of Mississippi State DE Montez Sweat to take him. The Mike Mayock/Jon Gruden brain trust didn’t read the running back room.

16. Minnesota Vikings
– The Vikings had lots and lots and lots of picks, but seven of them were after the fifth round. They got the blockers they need, and they got a few parts to fill in the gaps. Considering this is a strength in numbers draft, there have to be a few surprises from the back half.
– NC State C Garrett Bradbury had better be amazing – the first rounder has to be an instant leader on the line. Out of all the picks, one of the seventh round receivers – Oregon’s Dillon Mitchell or Colorado State’s Olabisi Johnson – has to be a player. Getting Alabama TE Irv Smith in the mid second round was nice.

15. Dallas Cowboys
– The Cowboy first round pick was really Amani Cooper from the trade with the Raiders. That’s far better than anyone they could’ve had in the late first round. This time around, Dallas did an okay job for the lines, and loaded up on a slew of excellent big school college players late.
– There’s a lot of in the way of complementary prospects. Miami CB Michael Jackson and DE Joe Jackson in the fifth are excellent gets to work into a rotation. Memphis RB Tony Pollard in the 4th and Ohio State RB Mike Weber in the 7th are options to try out behind Zeke.

14. Seattle Seahawks
– Seattle, of course, went Seattle, and it overreached on its early picks – TCU DE LJ Collier in the 1st – but it loaded up on draft picks in a massive strength in numbers class. Take 11 players, assume most will bust, assume a few won’t, and assume two of them will be big-time ballers.
– Getting Ole Miss WR DK Metcalf with the 32nd pick in the second round is ridiculous. Washington LB Ben Burr-Kirven might be a fifth rounder who’ll lead the team in tackles, and Wake Forest G Phil Haynes was an unnoticed fourth rounder who should stick.

13. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
– The Buccaneers needed defense, and defense they took. Yeah, they passed on Kentucky edge rusher Josh Allen and Houston DT Ed Oliver, but LSU LB Devin White was a need pick at the five. They needed defensive backs, and they took three before the third round. In all, six of the eight picks were for the D, and another was a kicker.
– The only offensive player selected was Bowling Green WR Scott Miller in the sixth. He won’t stick, but Utah PK Matt Gay in the fifth should be a factor.

12. Baltimore Ravens
– The Ravens blew off the issues at linebacker, but they came up with some really, really nice parts for the offense. With Oklahoma WR Marquise Brown and Oklahoma State RB Justice Hill, they got a whole lot of speed.
– It’s Baltimore, so of course the NCAA’s all-time leading sacker – Louisiana Tech’s Jaylon Ferguson – is going to work in the third round.
– There are some nice names – Trace McSorley, Daylon Mack, Iman Marshall – late in the draft. Mack and Marshall should stick. McSorley will be an easy cut.

11. Los Angeles Rams
– For what the Rams need, it’s terrific. The secondary got some instant help and great value in Washington S Taylor Rapp in the 2nd and Michigan’s David Long in the 3rd, but the real steal was Memphis RB Darrell Henderson in the early third. He might not be a workhorse, but as a home run hitting backup behind Todd Gurley, he’s fantastic.
– The O line got some players late. Oklahoma’s Bobby Evans (3rd) and Wisconsin’s David Edwards (5th) are hardly perfect prospects, but they can play. One of them will end up starting.

10. Tennessee Titans
– It’s really, really good. The Titans might have to wait a year, but getting Mississippi State DT Jeffery Simmons at the 19 – torn ACL and all – was strong, and landing Ole Miss WR AJ Brown in the mid-part of the second was sensational. There was good value across the board, and that includes the late round outside linebacker picks of …
– Georgia’s D’Andre Walker in the fifth and West Virginia’s David Long in the sixth might just stick. Throw in Iowa S Amani Hooker in the fourth, and the Titans made the most of all six picks.

9. New York Giants
– Okay, yes, the Daniel Jones pick might be an all-timer of a misfire if he’s not amazing. The Giants passed on Kentucky edge rusher Josh Allen and Houston DT Ed Oliver for him, and there was plenty of quarterback talent to be had later. Try not to focus on that for a moment … the rest of the draft is outstanding.
– The pick of Clemson DT Dexter Lawrence at the 17 all but made up for the Jones pick, and getting Georgia CB Deandre Baker late in the first was a steal. Old Dominion DE Oshane Ximenes was a good third round pick, and Notre Dame CB Julian Love in the fourth was even better. In all, the nine picks after Jones were good enough to maybe, possibly give the Giants the benefit of the doubt on their overreach quarterback pick.

8. Pittsburgh Steelers
– It was a very Pittsburgh draft. Take ultra-productive college players in value spots. It sounds simple, but too many teams make this too hard. Kentucky RB Benny Snell in the fourth? Northern Illinois edge rusher Sutton Smith and Akron LB Ulysees Gilbert in the sixth? The Steelers did a nice job with all of their late chances. However …
– Michigan LB Devin Bush with the tenth overall pick was a wee bit of an early get. It’s fine – the Steelers needed an inside presence, and Bush is more than that – but it was a premium spot in this draft and a whole lot of fantastic prospects were passed over.

7. Philadelphia Eagles
– The Eagles only had five picks, but three of them were before the third round, and overall, all five of them should work. That might be asking for a whole lot – of course the draft isn’t going to bat 1000 – but every guy taken should play a role right away.
– OT Andre Dillard out of Washington State needs to work considering Florida’s Jawaan Taylor was on the board, but he’s a good pass protector. Penn State’s Miles Sanders was a big running back get considering how early Oakland took Josh Jacobs, Stanford’s JJ Arcega-Whiteside is a strong receiver, Penn State DE Shareef Miller should be an instant part of the rotation, and Northwestern QB Clayton Thorson is an interesting backup option from the fifth.

6. Indianapolis Colts
– For not ending up with a first round pick, the Colts did an amazing job. Temple CB Rock Ya-Sin and Ohio State WR Parris Campbell are among the best prospects in their draft at their respective positions, and Indy got them in the second round.
– It’s a strength in numbers class with five picks after the fourth round. Overall, the defensive back seven got the most help with seven of the first eight selections for the defensive side.

5. Washington Redskins
– What’s not to like? The Redskins were able to get the right quarterback – Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins – at a value spot at the 15. They were able to steal Mississippi State DE Montez Sweat at the 26, and if Stanford RB Bryce Love gets healthy and back to form, landing him in the fourth was ridiculous.
– There were some nice late picks, too, in a ten player draft. NC State WR Kelvin Harmon should find his way onto the roster from the sixth round, and pass rushing DE Jordan Brailford was a fantastic chance on greatness in the seventh.

4. Buffalo Bills
– It’s potentially a killer in terms of value. Getting Florida LB Voesean Joesph in the fifth is a total steal, Miami S Jaquan Johnson is a 6th rounder who could stick, and TE Tommy Sweeney is a fantastic flier in the 7tth.
– Oh yeah … and Buffalo was able to snag Houston DT Ed Oliver with the seventh overall pick. Ka-BOOM.
– Landing Oklahoma OT Cody Ford was a really, really nice value get in the early second. Florida Atlantic RB Devin Singletary in the third – one pick after Chicago took Iowa State RB David Montgomery – will be interesting.

3. Denver Broncos
– The Broncos got value everywhere. Noah Fant was a much, much cheaper tight end option at the 20 than Iowa teammate TJ Hockenson was at the 8. Kansas State’s Dalton Risner was the type or prospect you don’t like in the late first, love in the early second. Ohio State DT Dre’Mont Jones went in the third – he could’ve gone in the mid-second without a problem.

2. Cincinnati Bengals
– It’s really, really good, and not just because they took a whole lot of big players from big schools from big conferences. They addressed their needs and got terrific value in the mid-rounds.
– The fourth round was fantastic. Arizona State DT Renell Wren was an absolute steal. So was NC State QB Ryan Finley. So was Ohio State OG Michael Jordan.
– There’s absolutely no waste. Washington TE Drew Sample was a bit high in the second round, but getting Oklahoma RB Rodney Anderson in the sixth and South Dakota State CB Jordan Brown in the seventh was amazing.

– Seriously, NFL? You let the Patriots get Arizona State WR N’Keal Harry? You let them get Alabama RB Damien Harris? You let them get Michigan DE Chase Winovich, and you let Auburn’s Jarrett Stidham slide to the fourth with a great chance to develop over the next few years? It’s a fantastic haul of prospects for the best team in the league.
– The odds of finding a decent starter after the third round are miserably low – like 10% low. But if you have ten draft picks, and you have five after the third, the chances obviously go up. P Jake Bailey from Stanford in the 5th is one who’ll likely stick, so will Stidham, and don’t be stunned if most of this class turns out to help the cause.
