The Raiders capped of their night with the selection of Mississippi State safety Johnathan Abram with the No. 27 overall pick of the 2019 NFL draft.
Oakland has Karl Joseph and they brought in Lamarcus Joyner in free agency. But it’s likely that Joyner will be playing more in the slot, while Abram will get most of his action in the box.
Abram thrives against the run and in man coverage against tight ends and wide receivers. He’s a strong, aggressive, and physical defender that has elite tackling ability. Abram will need to clean up some aggression that could lead to getting flagged. But he should be a starting player for the Raiders right out the gate.
