2019 NFL Draft Profile: Hawaii WR John Ursua

How will Ursua do in the NFL?

What are his strengths and weaknesses?

Hawaii wide receiver John Ursua gave up his final year of eligibility to enter the NFL Draft and it was the right move.

One reason he is likely going pro is that he is a bit older than the traditional prospect as he is going to be turning 25 in January because he served a two-year mission in Paris for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints.

Also, he has had a few injuries including a torn ACL and spending one more year in Hawaii where there might be a new quarterback would not really benefit his draft stock.

Measurables (via DraftScout)

Height – 5′ 9″

Weight – 178

Wingspan – 72 1/2″

Arm Length – 29 7/8″

Hand Size – 9 1/4″

40-Yard Dash – 4.56

Vertical Jump – 37″

Broad Jump – 120″

3-Cone Drill – 6.77 seconds

20-Yard Shuttle – 4.16 seconds

Bench Press – 17 reps

Strengths

Ursua is extremely athletic and able to pull down the bull that is even just within his finger tips and that explains why he was so successful. His hands are great but so his is his down the field capabilities which saw him speed past defenders while being Hawaii’s deep threat.

He is not just a deep threat because he can get open underneath which makes him a very versatile wide out at the next level and an attractive selection.

Weaknesses

The biggest knock against hi is his size as he is not even 200 pounds coming in at 175 and is just 5-foot-9. That size is smaller than even some defensive backs in the NFL, so that could be an issue. If teams push and jam him within the five yeards off the line scrimmage it will severely limit what he can do by being knocked off his route.

Draft Prediction

It is hit or miss if Ursua will be taken in the draft as evident in the seven-round mock drafts we gathered up where he is taken in just one. His size is the big issue but if teams want a player who can play multiple wide receiver positions he could be taken as a late-round pick. He is a guy who has huge games with multiple 200-yard receiving games in his career and overall is a playmaker.
