2019 NFL Draft: Patriots trade up to draft Stanford P Jake Bailey

The New England Patriots traded up in the 2019 NFL Draft to select Stanford punter Jake Bailey in the fifth round.

The Patriots traded their 167th and 246th picks to the Philadelphia Eagles for the 163rd pick — where they drafted Bailey.

Bailey is a right-footed punter, which is not typical for a punter that plays for New England. The Patriots re-signed Ryan Allen this offseason, which means that there will be a competition for the starter. Allen had an incredible Super Bowl performance, and appeared to be the clear-cut starter going forward.

The Patriots also drafted Maryland DT Byron Cowart in the fifth round.
